2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series - Philadelphia Flyers win 5-2 against the Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo Sabres hosted the 633rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series as they were up against the Philadelphia Flyers this Tuesday. This was the 42nd game of the season for both sides which saw around 18,000 fans come to witness
the match at the HSBC Arena. Buffalo Sabres looked to come up with a huge win after they took a 2-0 lead in the first period but Philadelphia Flyers managed to crawl their way into the match and win with a dominating 5-2. Danny Briere was named the star selection
of the match for his the goal he scored and three assists.
Buffalo Sabres definitely started off the proceedings being the stronger of the two teams. With the brilliance in their game, Buffalo Sabres managed to score through Paul Gaustad from a flick shot to take the lead in the 5th minute.
Both teams kept on attacking as a result there were several chances for both sides. The only question was that which team could convert the chances into goals. Buffalo Sabres successfully doubled the lead as they scored through Cody McCormick from a wonderful
backhand shot.
Philadelphia Flyers responded to the goals with some brilliant pieces of play and scored through Scott Hartnell from a simple tip in shot in the 13th minute to cut the lead to just one goal. The period ended with a few more goal attempts but no
further goals.
The period ended with Buffalo Sabres leading 2-1 as they made 14 goal attempts while Philadelphia Flyers made 10 goal attempts.
Buffalo Sabres emerged the stronger team in the second period. Their passing and offensive techniques were totally different from the Flyers and enabled them to come across scoring opportunities. The period was a hard fought battle between the two sides
and looked to end goalless.
However, the Philadelphia Flyers managed to score in the 19th minute through Danny Briere from a superb flick shot. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with the Buffalo Sabres making 15 goal attempts while the Flyers made 6 goal attempts.
The final period was totally dominated by the Philadelphia Flyers and they managed to score couple of goals to win the match. Philadelphia Flyers with the strong attacks managed to take the lead with a goal from Ville Leino from a long range shot in the
3rd minute.
Philadelphia Flyers successfully doubled the lead with another goal in the 12th minute from Mike Richards. The Flyers continued to attack and scoring opportunities kept on coming their ways. Buffalo Sabres offered some late resistance but the
Flyers sealed the match with the final goal of the match and period scored in the 19th minute through a brilliant Scott Hartnell flick shot.
The period and the match ended with Philadelphia Flyers winning the match 5-2 as they made 17 goal attempts in the final period while the Buffalo Sabres made 11 goal attempts.
"Danny B's having a heck of a season and it gives him motivation to shove it up whoever didn't pick him," said Hartnell, who scored twice, including an empty.
