2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Phoenix Coyotes beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-0 as expected
The only game of Tuesday which was the 306th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Phoenix Coyotes play host to the Edmonton Oilers. The match took place at the Jobing.com Arena in front of 9,000 fans and ended a few minutes earlier.
The game saw the Edmonton Oilers play their 20th game while the Phoenix Coyotes played the 21st game of the campaign thus far.
The Phoenix Coyotes started the period dominating the proceedings right from the start of the match. The backing of the home crowd further boosted their confidence.
The confidence with the added determination to register their 7th win resulted in a goal for the home team. The Phoenix Coyotes scored in the 48th second of the match to open their account and take the lead. The goal was scored by Martin
Hanzal from a perfectly placed flick shot. The Phoenix Coyotes piled attacks after attacks and had numerous shots but they couldn’t score.
The home team had a very good chance to double the lead in the 10th minute but the open goal opportunity was wasted. The Edmonton Oilers came up with a good performance right at the end of the period as they fired a couple of shots right at the
death. But unfortunately they couldn’t score.
Though the home team was leading 1-0 as the teams went into the break but the 16 goal attempts they made out of which 1 was converted disappointed them. The Edmonton Oilers on the other hand could manage just 4 goal attempts during the course of the period.
The 2nd period of the match saw the Edmonton Oilers start proceedings strongly but like the previous period, they failed to score.
The home team on the other hand scored in the 2nd minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Wojtek Wolski. Though the Edmonton Oilers was the more productive side in terms of goal attempts, but it was the Phoenix Coyotes who scored once
again in the 18th minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was scored by Lee Stempniak.
The period ended with the Phoenix Coyotes leading 3-0 as they made 7 goal attempts in the period while the Edmonton Oilers made 12 goal attempts.
The final period was evenly matched in terms of goal attempts but it was once again the home side that managed to convert and score the 2 goals of the period.
The first goal was scored by Martin Hanzal who bagged his second goal for the night through a powerful strike. The second was scored in the 19th minute which sealed the match for the home side. The goal was scored by Lee Stempniak who also scored
his second for the night.
The period and the match ended with the Phoenix Coyotes winning 5-0 and they made 11 goal attempts in the final period whereas the Edmonton Oilers made 7 goal attempts.
