2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Phoenix Coyotes host the Edmonton Oilers (Preview)
The Phoenix Coyotes will be playing the Edmonton Oilers this Tuesday. With the home advantage, the Phoenix Coyotes will be looking to extend their winning streak to seven wins in a row. Both the teams were scheduled to meet each other
four times during course of the season. This is second meeting between the teams in as many as five days.
The last fixture saw the home team Phoenix Coyotes win the match after a 4-3 shootout thriller on the 19th of November. The game was a tough and entertaining battle which should have been won by the Edmonton Oilers
but unfortunately they couldn’t.
The Phoenix Coyotes have currently played 20 games. They have won 15 games and lost 5 games and sit in a comfortable position with 25 points. The Phoenix Coyotes are on a very successful run during the recent matches as they won on the
road against the Oilers, Canucks and Flames for the first time since 1996.
The Phoenix Coyotes further strength their chances of a win as their Captain Shane Doan returns to the squad after an injury and would surely boost their squad.
For the Edmonton Oilers, the road has been difficult thus far as they have won only 9 games out of the 19 games and lost the rest. They have scored 14 points in the process which is by no means what they are expected to do and capable
of doing.
The Edmonton Oilers enjoyed some success this weekend on Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks as they won the match 4-2. They will surely be looking to continue with the performance and with it win the match.
Though this is highly unlikely to happen, but still there is a chance as the Phoenix Coyotes are facing an injury crisis as their main players like Kyle Turris and Kurt Sauer are out of action. Coupled with this is the fact that the Edmonton
Oilers forward Ales Hemsky is on a role as he has bagged a couple of goals during the past few games and will be looking to continue his form.
Hopeful of a win this time out, the Phoenix Coyotes Coach said, "The one thing I like is we've got everybody contributing," Coach Dave Tippett said. "Every night, it seems like there's a different guy that steps up and plays well, or a
different line. Our goaltending has been solid through it, but for the most part it's been a solid team effort."
