2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Phoenix Coyotes win 4-2 against Minnesota Wild
The 362nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw Minnesota Wild play host to Phoenix Coyotes at the Xcel Energy Centre this Wednesday. The match was played in front of around 17,000 fans that came in support of the respective teams.
This was the 24th game of the campaign for both teams as both sides were in a quest for victory.
The home team made a brilliant start and attacked the opposing defence right from the word go. They dominated possession for a good 5 minutes in the early stages which resulted in them coming across scoring opportunities. The home team with the backing of
the home fans continued to pile pressure on the Coyotes defence.
The opposing defence was also determined not to let the Minnesota Wild as they cut attacks regularly. As a result the home team started firing shots from long range but none of them found the back of the net. However, the Phoenix Coyotes started to attack
and as a result they came up with brilliant pieces of play as the end of the period approached.
The away side successfully scored in the 20th minute of the period to take the lead. The goal was scored by Ed Jovanovski from a simple tip in shot. The home team again put the foot on the gas making 3 goal attempts in the dying stages of the
period but couldn’t come up with any goals.
The period ended with the Phoenix Coyotes leading 1-0 as they made 17 goal attempts while the Minnesota Wild made 14 goal attempts.
The Coyotes continued to put pressure on the home side and they came up with numerous scoring opportunities and managed to score another goal in the 6th minute. The goal was scored by Scottie Upshall through a powerful strike.
The period saw both the teams making more goal attempts but no more goals were scored during the course of the last 14 minutes.
The period ended with the Phoenix Coyotes leading 2-0 as they made 12 goal attempts while their counterparts made 11 goal attempts.
The final period started off slowly for both teams but the Minnesota Wild scored in the 13th minute to cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored by Matt Cullen from a perfectly placed flick shot.
Minnesota Wild responded to this with attacks too which resulted in them scoring in 18th minute to regain the 2 goal advantage. The goal was scored by Scottie Upshall from a quick fired shot that caught the goal keeper by surprise.
The Minnesota Wild scored once again in the 19th minute through Mikko Koivu but the Coyotes sealed the match with a goal with 30 seconds of the match left to play. The goal was scored by Lauri Korpikoski as the Coyotes won the match 4-2.
