2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Phoenix Coyotes win 4-3 against Edmonton Oilers
Friday, 19th November 2010 saw the Edmonton Oilers play host to the Phoenix Coyotes as part of the 281st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played at the Rexall Place in front of 17,000 fans as the Edmonton
Oilers played their 18th game while the Phoenix Coyotes played their 19th game.
The game was expected to be a tight encounter and lived up to the expectations. It turned out to be a very entertaining game that saw the Phoenix Coyotes wining the match 4-3 after a shootout.
The first period of the match was mostly seen dominated by the Phoenix Coyotes as they bombarded shots at the opposing goal from the start of the match. The Edmonton Oilers were reluctant on attacking but after the 10th minute made a few attacks.
The home team was able to take the lead with a goal in the 13th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Ales Hemsky through a powerful strike from long range.
The period saw both the teams coming across more chances but no goals were scored as the period ended with the Edmonton Oilers leading 1-0. The Edmonton Oilers made 5 goal attempts in the period while the Phoenix Coyotes made 11 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw both the teams approach the game attack mindedly as they fired shots every now and then without thinking about the defence.
As a result, the home team was first to score with a goal in the 4th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Shawn Horcoff.
Both the teams kept on piling the pressure and Edmonton Oilers managed to take the score to 3-0 with another goal in the 12th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Dustin Penner through a simple tip in shot.
The Phoenix Coyotes felt the need to score if they were to have any chance of a comeback. They did just that as they scored in the 14th minute through Lauri Korpikoski’s backhand shot.
The Phoenix Coyotes cut the lead to just 1 goal with as they scored in the 15th minute through Radim Vrbata as the period ended 3-2 in favour of the home team.
The final period of the match was dominated by the Phoenix Coyotes and they scored with 30 seconds remaining to level the scores and take the match into overtime. The goal was scored by Wojtek Wolski with a wonderful flick shot.
The overtime didn’t see any goal either as the game went into a shootout. During the shootout, Eric Belanger’s goal won the Phoenix Coyotes the match 4-3.
