2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Phoenix Coyotes win 5-4 against the Calgary Flames
The 231st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the Jobing.com Arena, home of the Phoenix Coyotes. The game saw the Calgary Flames play their 15th game while the Phoenix Coyotes played their 16th game
of the campaign. There were around 11,000 fans that came in support of their respective teams who eventually saw the Phoenix Coyotes win the match 5-4.
The home team, Phoenix Coyotes made a great start as they displayed some excellent skills on ice with the puck. They frequently got past the opposing defence but lacked the final touch.
However, the Calgary Flames scored with the very first attack they made. The goal was scored by Rene Bourque through a decent flick shot from 9 feet. The period saw both teams coming across several goal scoring opportunities but neither of the teams capitalized
and the period ended with the Calgary Flames leading 1-0.
During this time frame Phoenix Coyotes made12 goal attempts while the Calgary Flames came up with 10 goal attempts.
The Phoenix Coyotes were able to score in the 2nd minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Vernon Fiddler through a flick shot that went into the right corner of the goal. With the scores levelled, the home team pushed in search of another
goal.
Their search was successful as the Coyotes scored in the 6th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Lee Stempniak through a fantastic shot that was hit with a lot of power.
The Phoenix Coyotes took the score to 3-1 in the 9th minute as they scored once again though they were 0-1 down at the start of the period. The goal was scored by Scottie Upshall through a powerful strike which left the goalkeeper no chance of
stopping it.
The final goal of the period came in favour of the Calgary Flames with a goal in the 13th minute. The goal scorer was Ian White through another powerful shot from 45 feet. The period ended with the score 3-2 in favour of the Phoenix Coyotes.
The final period saw the home team score twice in the 13th minute and the 19th minute respectively to take the score to 5-2. Both the goals were scored by Vernon Fiddler through perfectly placed flick shot from 11 and 97 feet respectively.
The home team looked in a comfortable position until the Calgary Flames scored twice in the last minute to make the final few seconds interesting. The first goal was scored by Alex Tanguay through a simple strike and the second was scored by Tim Jackman
through a powerful strike.
The match ended with the Phoenix Coyotes winning 5-4 with a scare at the end.
