2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Pittsburgh Penguins win 1-0 against the Buffalo Sabres
The first game of Wednesday and 307th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the HSBC Arena, home to the Buffalo Sabres. The match was played between the home side and the Pittsburgh Penguins in front of 18,000 fans. This was
the 23rd game of the campaign for both the teams as they squared off against each other.
The Buffalo Sabres were quick to attack and started right from the start of the match. The home team came close to scoring on several occasions but they just couldn’t find the back of the net.
The frustration and disappointment started to affect their game and the Pittsburgh Penguins took advantage of this and came up with attacks. They confidence and determination to score and take the lead both grew as they searched a goal.
The Pittsburgh Penguins was successful in scoring in the 16th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Pascal Dupuis from a flick shot that put the Penguins in the lead. Both the teams got very strong offensively right at the end of the period
but no further goals were scored as the period ended 1-0 in favour of the away side.
During the course of the period, the Pittsburgh Penguins made 15 goal attempts while the Buffalo Sabres made 8 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Pittsburgh start strongly but they failed to capitalize from the few chances they got and were unsuccessful in scoring during the period. Though both the teams got chances but they came after such a long time considering
that now days there are several goals in one minute so they were not ready and most of the times lost possession.
The Buffalo Sabres with the backing of the home crowd came up with a splendid effort and got into scoring opportunities regularly right at the death. The Sabres combined well throughout the period and also came close to scoring but they too failed to score
like their counterparts and the period ended 1-0 in favour of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
During the course of the period, the Pittsburgh Penguins made 7 goal attempts while the Buffalo Sabres made 11 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the Buffalo Sabres come out strong and attack the away side but they couldn’t finish the plays that they created. Same was the case for the away side to desperately tried to score but couldn’t. The period and the match ended
1-0 in favour of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The period ended with the Buffalo Sabres making 10 goal attempts while the Penguins made 7 goal attempts.
