2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Pittsburgh Penguins win 1-0 against the New York Islanders
Another one of Tuesday’s game was the Pittsburgh Penguins playing host to the New York Islanders. The match was played at the Consol Energy Centre with around 18,000 fans attending the match. This was the 736th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series with Islanders playing the 48th game of their season, while Penguins played the 50th game of their season.
The match was tighter than expected with the struggling New York Islanders coming up with great performance. However, Penguins managed to win the match scoring the only goal of the match in the final period to emerge as 1-0 winners of the match. Marc-Andre
Fleury, goal keeper of the Pittsburgh Penguins was named the star selection of the match for 100% saves making 29 saves.
Pittsburgh Penguins made a decent start to the match but New York Islanders attacking and defending was also up to the mark as the match started. There were several occasions where it looked that a goal was on the way but the goal keepers did an excellent
job to not allow any goals.
Both teams constructed brilliant pieces of play which resulted in scoring chances for both teams. The mid field and defending were both superb but the finishing failed both sides. But the main reason as to why there weren’t any goals was the fact that both
goal keepers put up an impressive show.
New York Islanders got stronger as the period neared its end. The away side made things difficult for the Penguins but couldn’t manage to score any goals either.
The period ended with the scores deadlocked on 0-0 with Pittsburgh Penguins making 9 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 12 goal attempts.
The second period saw the New York Islanders carrying the momentum as they continued to dominate possession and come across scoring chances. The attacks got stronger and stronger and it looked that the Islanders would score soon.
However, this didn’t happen as Pittsburgh Penguins neutralized all the pressure put on them by attacking as well. The Pittsburgh Penguins after a slow start attacked and started to create chances too. The period saw Pittsburgh Penguins bombarding shots on
goal as the period neared its end. Unfortunately, there weren’t any goals once again as the period ended with the scores still level on 0-0.
The period saw the Pittsburgh Penguins ending up making 14 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 7 goal attempts.
This time it was Pittsburgh Penguins who were confident and made a great start to the final period. The constant attacking and hard work in every department finally provided us with the first goal of the match. The goal was scored in favour of the Pittsburgh
Penguins by Craig Adams from a decent flick shot in the 9th minute.
Both teams made a few more goal attempts but it was Pittsburgh Penguins who won the match 1-0 in the end. The final 20 minutes of play saw the Pittsburgh Penguins making 8 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 10 goal attempts.
