2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Pittsburgh Penguins win 2-1 against the New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils versus the Pittsburgh Penguins was the 396th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played at the Consol Energy Centre home of the Pittsburgh Penguins this Monday. There were around 18,000 fans that
came to witness the match as the home team played the 29th game of the season while the New Jersey Devils played the 27th game of the campaign thus far.
The Pittsburgh Penguins made a decent start to the match as they fired shots early on and came up with some brilliant passing. They didn’t let the away side settle down with the constant attacks they made. Coupled with this was the fact that the home team
had a very tight defence that didn’t allow anyone to get past it.
After the 10th minute, the Devils started to come up with attacks too.
The hard work paid off for the New Jersey Devils as they scored in the 15th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Brian Rolston through a simple flick shot.
The Penguins were fully supported by the home fans. As a result they managed to level the scores in the very next minute. The goal was scored in the 16th minute by Chris Kunitz from a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net.
The final stages of the period saw both teams coming across a few more goal attempts but no further goals were scored. The period ended with scores levelled on 1-1. During the course of period the New Jersey Devils made 8 goal attempts while the Pittsburgh
Penguins made 16 goal attempts.
The 2nd period started off in a brilliant manner for the New Jersey Devils as they flooded shots after shots in the early stages of the match. The home team was unable to respond to the strong attacks they made.
The only flaw in the play of the Devils was that they couldn’t finish the plays they developed. The home team managed to gain some momentum later in the period. They started to attack as well and scored in the 13th minute to take the lead. The
goal was scored by Sidney Crosby through a quick fired flick shot.
The period didn’t see more goals despite of the several chances that they got. The teams went into the break with the Penguins leading 2-1. During the period the Devils made 10 goal attempts while the Penguins made 11 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of the match saw the team making numerous goal attempts. Some went wide while some were stopped by the goal keepers. As a result, no goals were scored in the final period. The Pittsburgh Penguins emerged as 2-1 winners of the match.
Final period saw the New Jersey Devils making 10 goal attempts while the Pittsburgh Penguins made 7 goal attempts.
