2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Pittsburgh Penguins win 3-2 against the Florida Panthers despite the away disadvantage

The final game of Monday saw the Florida Panthers host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The match was played at the Bank Atlantic Centre in front of 17,000 fans with this being the 305th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. This was the 22nd
game of the season for the Pittsburgh Penguins while the Florida Panthers played their 19th game of the season thus far.
Both the teams fired shots at the goal regularly from the start of the match but it was the Pittsburgh Penguins who took the lead as they scored in the 5th minute. The goal was scored by Kris Letang from a powerful strike.
The away side dominated play for a few minutes and saw their Captain Sidney Crosby scoring in the 12th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored from a spectacular backhand shot that went through the legs of the goal keeper.
The Florida Panthers started to come up with good plays as the period neared its end and scored in the 20th minute. The goal was scored by Cory Stillman from a simple tip in shot. The period ended with the Pittsburgh Penguins leading 2-1 going
into the break.
During the course of the period, the Penguins made 14 goal attempts while the Florida Panthers made 10 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Penguins strong only in the beginning, as they couldn’t continue with their dominating performance.
The Florida Panthers’ changed strategy seemed to work for them as they started to come across scoring opportunities every now and then. They were successful in scoring in the 5th minute of the period to level the scores.
The goal was scored by Bryan McCabe from a quick shot that went past the defence like a flash and into the goal.
The period saw the home team getting several opportunities to take the lead but unfortunately they couldn’t score and the period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the course of the period the Florida Panthers made 10 goal attempts while the Pittsburgh
Penguins made 6 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw both the teams come out determined to score. Though they maintained a very tight defence but the determination in their attacks showed that they wanted to win in regular time rather than taking the game into overtime.
However, it was the Pittsburgh Penguins who scored the only goal of the period to clinch the victory. The goal was scored by Chris Conner in the 13th minute through a wonderful flick shot.
The final period saw the Penguins making 6 goal attempts while the Florida Panthers made 7 goal attempts as the Pittsburgh Penguins won the match 3-2.
