2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– San Jose Sharks defeat defending champions Chicago Blackhawks 5-2
The final game of Wednesday saw the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks play the San Jose Sharks. The match was played at the HP Pavilion Arena in San Jose with around 17,500 fans attending the 319th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series.
The match saw the Chicago Blackhawks play the 24th game of their season while the San Jose Sharks played the 20th game of their campaign thus far.
Both the teams made a terrific start to the match as they were very strong on offence right from the word go. The teams were often seen in scoring positions but they couldn’t convert the chances into goals.
The defending champions almost took the lead in the 8th minute only to be denied by a brilliant save from the San Jose Sharks goal keeper Antti Niemi. However, the San Jose Sharks took the lead with a goal in the 14th minute of the
period. The goal was scored by Dany Heatley from a perfectly placed flick shot.
There were more scoring opportunities for both the teams but no more goals were scored and the teams went into the break with the Sharks leading 1-0. The first period saw the Chicago Blackhawks making 12 goal attempts while the San Jose Sharks made 10 goal
attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw the San Jose Sharks double their lead with a goal in the 3rd minute. The goal was scored by Jamal Mayers from a flick shot. The Chicago Blackhawks managed to respond to this with strong attacks too. The
Blackhawks managed to score their first goal in the 4th minute as a result.
The goal was scored by Jake Dowell, who scored through a decent strike. The San Jose Sharks were successful in regaining the 2 goal lead with another goal in the 5th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Joe Pavelski.
The period saw both the teams coming across several more scoring opportunities but no more goals were scored and the period ended with the San Jose Sharks leading 3-1. During the course of the period the Chicago Blackhawks managed 8 goal attempts while the
San Jose Sharks scored 13 goal attempts.
The final period started strongly for the Chicago Blackhawks and they were successful in cutting the lead to just 1 goal scoring in the 4th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Patrick Sharp from a simple tip-in shot.
From then onwards, the home team dominated the play and scored in the 14th minute once again to take the score to 4-2. The goal was scored by Patrick Marleau from a flick shot. The San Jose Sharks wrapped up the match with the final goal of the
match in the 20th minute. The goal was scored by Patrick Marleau once again as the Sharks won the match 5-2.
The final period of the match saw the Sharks making 6 goal attempts while the Chicago Blackhawks made 12 goal attempts.
