2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – San Jose Sharks fulfil their fans expectations and win 5-4 against the Philadelphia Flyers

The 406th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between the Philadelphia Flyers and the San Jose Sharks. The match was played at the Wells Fargo Centre, home of the Philadelphia Flyers. There were around 10,000 fans that came
in support of their respective teams with the San Jose Sharks playing the 27th game of the season while the Philadelphia Flyers played the 29th game of the campaign.
Both teams made a decent yet cautious start to the match as they waited for chances to come their way rather than attacking without any planning. The teams had the planning and they worked according to that. Philadelphia Flyers were the stronger of the two
teams at the start of the match but they couldn’t convert the chances into goals.
As it has been the case for most of the matches in the season thus far, the away team settled down with the passage of time and started to come up with attacks. The away team successfully scored in the 20th minute to take the lead of the match.
The goal was scored by Ryane Clowe from a brilliant long range shot. After taking the lead, the home team continued to attack but they couldn’t score during the course of the period as the 20 minutes of play ended with the San Jose Sharks leading 1-0.
During the course of the period the San Jose Sharks made 6 goal attempts while the Philadelphia Flyers made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the home team start off strongly. The Philadelphia Flyers successfully fired shots on goal and came up with some brilliant passing. The home team managed to score in the 7th minute to level the scores. The goal was
scored by Claude Giroux from a well placed flick shot.
The Flyers continued to attack despite being in the lead. They were able to double their lead with another goal in the 11th minute. The goal was scored by Ville Leino from a decent strike. The Flyers continuous attacks resulted in them scoring
their third in the 12th minute. The goal was scored by Nikolay Zherdev from a powerful yet well placed shot.
The San Jose Sharks showed some resistance at the end but couldn’t score as the period ended with Philadelphia Flyers leading 3-1. During the course of the period, the Sharks made 9 goal attempts while the Flyers made 14 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Philadelphia Flyers scoring once again in the 7th minute to establish 3 goals lead to their advantage. The goal was scored by Scott Hartnell. The San Jose Sharks responded to this with attacks too but couldn’t score early
on.
However, the away side managed to score in the 8th minute through Jason Demers. They scored once again in the 11th minute to cut the lead to just one goal with 9 minutes left to play. The goal was scored by Logan Couture. The San Jose
Sharks fans went wild while the home crowd was silenced when the San Jose Sharks scored once more in the 12th minute to level the scores at 4-4.
The goal was scored by Joe Pavelski from a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net. The match went into overtime where no goals were scored.
Logan Couture and Ryane Clowe scored in shootout to hand San Jose Sharks the victory.
