2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – San Jose Sharks win 5-2 against the New Jersey Devils
One of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series games took place at the Hp Pavilion Centre, home of the San Jose Sharks. The game saw the San Jose Sharks play the New Jersey Devils this Wednesday, 27th of October 2010. The New Jersey Devils played
their 10th game and the San Jose Sharks played the 8th game of the campaign thus far. The domination of the home team started from the very first period, as they outplayed the New Jersey Devils winning the match at the end with the score
on 5-2.
1st Period
Though the New Jersey Devils made a strong start but they couldn’t capitalize from the early chances they got. They came up with accurate passing and perfect shooting that saw the goal keeper in the way most of the times.
However, the home team with the backing of 18,000 fans scored in the 10th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Captain Joe Thornton from 34 feet through a splendid flick shot. Taking the lead, the San Jose Sharks was urged by the home
fans to keep the pressure. This provided them with more scoring opportunities.
They scored in the 12th minute it double their lead with the goal coming from Patrick Marleau from 6 feet through an impressive wrap around shot. From then onwards, the home team took the foot off the gas and only attacked when they got an opportunity
to. The New Jersey Devils thought of it as an opportunity to score but to their disappointment, they couldn’t score. It was the San Jose Sharks who struck again, when the Devils were caught on a counter attack.
The goal came in the 18th minute as Captain Joe Thornton scored once again as his shot helped by a deflection this time. The period ended with the score 3-0 in favour of the home team. During the period, the home team scored thrice out of the
17 goal attempts and the away team made 11 goal attempts without any goals.
2nd Period
The New Jersey Devils struck first in the 2nd period in hope for a comeback. The goal came in the 4th minute that cut down the lead to 2 goals. David Clarkson was the goal scorer whose 24 feet power strike found the back of the net.
However, the home team was content on regaining the 3 goals lead and were successful in doing so. The San Jose Sharks scored in the 17th minute to take the score to 4-1 with Joe Thornton scoring once again to complete his hat-trick. The goal came
as a result of the Captain’s powerful strike from 13 feet.
The period ended as the San Jose Sharks was in the lead with the score on 4-1 and both teams scoring 1 goal each. The New Jersey Devils made 10 goal attempts and the San Jose Sharks made 13 goal attempts.
3rd Period
The 3rd period started off in a spectacular manner for the San Jose Sharks as they scored to seal the match. The goal was scored by Dany Heatley through a powerful shot that was made from 8 feet.
After taking the score to 5-1, the home team didn’t attack with the firepower and force that they showed during the previous attacks they made. Though the New Jersey Devils scored in the 15th minute but it was no more than just a consolation goal.
The goal was scored by Andy Green from a decent strike from 14 feet. The period ended with the score on 5-2 in favour of the San Jose Sharks.
"We're all really frustrated with the start we've had, the results we've had," forward Zach Parise said after a 3-1 loss to the rival New York Rangers on Sunday.
"You've got a lot of frustrated guys in here."
Captain of the losing team, New Jersey Devils said, "I think it's going to be a good thing for us," Captain Jamie Langenbrunner said. "We'll be able to spend some time together, do a few dinners and get ourselves going all in the same direction.
That's going to be important because it's not going to get any easier for us to dig ourselves out of the hole we've put ourselves in."
