2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Special Report – Anaheim Ducks win 3-2 against Edmonton Oilers after a tough battle
Anaheim Ducks hosted the final game of the Sunday as they were up against the Edmonton Oilers. The match was played at the Honda centre with around 16,000 fans coming to witness the match with this being the 676th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL
Premiere Series.
Anaheim Ducks looked in a comfortable position leading 3-0 but at the end of the Edmonton Oilers trailed by just one goal. However, the away side was successful in scoring any further goals as Anaheim Ducks won the match 3-2. Teemu Selanne was the start
selection of the match as the scored two goals which proved to be the difference in the end.
Edmonton Oilers started off quickly and fired a couple of shots on goal. However, this was all they could manage in the period as Anaheim Ducks bounced back into the match with attacks and some splendid pieces of pieces.
The home team with the backing of the home crowd successfully took the lead scoring through Luca Sbisa from a powerful long range shot in the 10th minute. After the goal both teams took the foot off the gas and concentrated on keeping possession.
However, this all changed as the end of the period approached. Both teams got on the throttle once again which resulted in shots after shots. Anaheim Ducks successfully doubled their lead with the goal scored by Teemu Selanne in the 17th minute.
The period saw a few more goal attempts as the period neared its end but no goals were scored.
The period ended with the Anaheim Ducks leading 2-0 at the end of the period as they made 12 goal attempts while Edmonton Oilers made 5 goal attempts.
The second period was hard fought battle which saw both teams attacking and defending pretty well in the opening 15 minutes of the match. There were several chances for teams to score goals but this didn’t happen in the early part of the period.
As the period got into the final 5 minutes, the attacks intensified resulting Teemu Selanne scoring Anaheim Ducks third goal in the 18th minute. However, Edmonton Oilers didn’t back after the goal and successfully scored twice in the 19th
minute to cut the lead to just one goal.
The first and second goals were scored by Magnus Paajarvi and Sam Gagner from flick shots respectively. The period ended with Anaheim Ducks leading 3-2 as they made 9 goal attempts in the period while Edmonton Oilers made 12 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams continue on the same roads and they had scoring chances but they failed to capitalise from the chances they got. The period saw no goals being scored during the 20 minutes of play.
Consequently, Anaheim Ducks won the match 3-2 and made 7 goal attempts in the final period while Edmonton Oilers made 12 goal attempts.
"Third period they were much better," Selanne said. "They were aggressive, they were skating, they won the battles, and and we had a goalie that stopped everything. Without him this would be ugly."
