2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Special Report – Boston Bruins come up with an upset defeating Philadelphia Flyers 7-5

Boston Bruins hosted the first game of Thursday as they were up against the Philadelphia Flyers. The match was played at the TD Garden with around 17,500 fans attending the game. This was the 646th game of the season with both teams playing the
43rd game of their respective campaign. The match was relatively close after the first two periods but Boston Bruins turned the tables with Steven Kampher leading with a goal and an assist as Boston Bruins emerged as 7-5 winners of the match.
Philadelphia Flyers were expected to win and dominate the match from the start. However, this wasn’t the case as Boston Bruins made a great start to the match. There were several occasions at the start which could have resulted in a goal but the goal keepers
did an excellent job.
Philadelphia Flyers with the momentum successfully scored through Scott Hartnell from a wonderful flick shot in the 4th minute of the period. Both teams continued to attack and with the some brilliant pieces of play kept on coming across scoring
opportunities.
However, it was not until the 19th minute that we saw the second goal. The goal was scored by Zdeno Chara from a long range powerful strike in favour of the Bruins which levelled the scores. The period ended with the scores on 1-1 with both teams
making 12 goal attempts each.
Boston Bruins made a strong start to the second period with numerous goal attempts in the opening few minutes. Boston Bruins took the lead as a result of some splendid passing and finishing. The goal was scored by Patrice Bergeron from a brilliant tip in
shot in the very first minute.
After the goal, Philadelphia Flyers stepped up their game. Combining superbly every now and then the away side managed to level the scores in the 16th minute with the goal scored by Nikolay Zherdev from a decent backhand shot.
There was a flurry of shots as the period neared its end and as expected, a goal was scored in favour of the Philadelphia Flyers by Jeff Carter. The period ended with Philadelphia Flyers leading 3-2 as they made 12 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made
10 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Boston Bruins absolutely explode at the start as they scored two goals in the opening two minutes. The first goal was scored by Mark Recchi from a well placed flick shot while the second was a result of a simple tip in shot by Michael
Ryder.
After a few minutes, Philadelphia managed to score a couple in the 7th and 8th minutes respectively to take the lead once again. Danny Briere was the first goal scorer while the later was scored by Sean O’Donnell.
With the Flyers leading 5-4 Boston Bruins felt the need to step up their game which is exactly what they did. After scoring through Brad Marchand in the 12th minute, Boston scored two more goals through Steven Kampher and Gregory Campbell to seal
the match in the final minutes.
The period and the match ended with the Philadelphia Flyers winning the match 7-5 with the Flyers making 11 goal attempts in the final period while Boston Bruins made 15 goal attempts.
