2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Special Report – League leaders Vancouver Canucks host New York Islanders (Preview)
New York Islanders will be hosting the league leaders Vancouver Canucks as part of the 633rd game of the regular season. The match will take place tomorrow which is the only meeting between the two sides of the season.
These both teams met in 2008 where New York Islanders managed to come up with a 2-1 win after shootout. The last time these two met was also in the lone meeting of the last season where John Tavares of the New York Islanders scored twice and came up with
three assists as the Islanders thrashed the Vancouver Canucks 5-2.
Vancouver Canucks was on a role in the season as it was not only leading the league but maintained an eight-game winning streak and six-game home winning streak. All this became part of history as the Detroit Red Wings who are in hot pursuit of the Canucks
handed then a 2-1 loss after shootout his weekend.
Vancouver Canucks were on the verge of breaking the record of breaking the record for the winning streak was previously also belonged to them with 10. Though they couldn’t quite manage to come up with this but still they created a record for the longest
streak (16 games) without loss in regulation time.
Vancouver Canucks has emerged as one of the most disciplined teams in the league and most importantly consistent. They have bagged goals and wins regularly which has enabled them to lead the league.

New York Islanders are currently being led by the goal keeper Kevin Poulin who is coming up with extravagant performances game after game. If we talk about the last two games in the NHL season, then the goal keeper has made 53 saves out of the 56 shots fired
on his goal.
This includes a win against the Colorado Avalanche most recently during which he had a saves percentage of 0.946. The replacement for Coach Scott Gomez has been able to turn things around in the camp as before him New York Islanders sat most of the season
at the bottom of the table.
After the interim Coach took over, New York Islanders have improved quite a lot and maintain a record of nine wins in regulation time, 3 wins in overtime and just one loss. Islanders are getting stronger game by game and completed their five-game winning
streak as they won against the Colorado Avalanche.
Ahead of the match, New York Islanders will be looking up to their goal keeper once again as the Vancouver Canucks strong offence led by Ryan Kessler is scoring goals and mostly during the power plays.
Vancouver Canucks are definitely the stronger of the two teams ahead of the match and expected to win the match comfortably.
