2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Special Report – New York Rangers thrash Toronto Maple Leafs 7-0
The first game of Wednesday was the New York Rangers playing against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The match was played at the Madison Square Garden and was the 693rd game of the season with around 18,000 fans coming to witness the match.
The match was expected to be a tight encounter. However, by no means was this the case, as New York Rangers dominated the game right from the start. Though New York Rangers scored only one goal in the final period, they had several more chances to score.
This didn’t happen and the period and the match ended with the New York Rangers winning the match 7-0.
Marion Gaborik, winger of the New York Rangers was named the star selection of the match for his 4 goals and an assist scoring 5 points in the match.
Toronto Maple Leafs made a decent start to the match, during this Maple Leafs displayed excellent passing and shooting abilities. There were several occasions early on in the period where it looked as if they would but unfortunately, this didn’t happen.
With a few minutes into the period, New York Rangers started to attack as well. The home team with the back of the crowd started to create chances for themselves. Rangers with the strong offence managed to score through Marion Gaborik in the 11th
minute to get into the lead.
New York Rangers totally dominated the game and managed to double their lead with another goal in the 13th minute scored by Brain Boyle from a simple tip in shot.
It didn’t take long for the New York Rangers to score once again in the very next minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was scored through a brilliant flick shot by Marion Gaborik. Ruslan Fedotenko completed the domination in the period with the final
goal in the 16th minute.
New York Rangers made a few more goal attempts but no further goals were scored as New York Rangers led 4-0 going into the break. During the course of the period, Rangers made 14 goal attempts while Toronto Maple Leafs made 8 goal attempts.
The second period was a little dried up in terms of attacks made but some brilliant pieces of play were observed. There were several chances for both teams right from the word go. However, no goals were scored during the early part of the period.
With a few minutes past, New York Rangers stepped up their game once again that resulted in a goal in the 12th minute scored by Marion Gaborik. The New York Rangers proved to be productive once again scoring in the 15th minute to bag
his fourth goal from a decent strike.
The period ended with the New York Rangers leading 6-0 heading into the break as Toronto Maple Leafs made 5 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Toronto Maple Leafs come out strong but it was New York Rangers who scored during the very first play of the period in the first minute. The goal was scored by Mats Zuccarello from a powerful strike.
There were several shots made by both teams but the match ended with the New York Rangers winning the match 7-0. During the course of the final period, New York Rangers made 4 goal attempts while Toronto Maple Leafs made 9 goal attempts.
