2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Special Report – Washington Capitals win 3-1 against the Ottawa Senators

The first game of Sunday and the 672nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by Washington Capitals at the Verizon Centre as they were up against the Ottawa Senators. There were around 18,000 fans that came in support of their
respective teams. Ottawa Senators looked to win the match after going into the final period leading but Washington Capitals managed to turn the tables and emerge as 3-1 winners of the match. John Carlson was named the star selection of the match from his goal
that put the Capitals in the lead.
Ottawa Senators made a decent start to the match that saw them coming across scoring right from the word go. Ottawa Senators with the brilliant passing were able to score and take the lead in the 2nd minute. The goal was scored by Mike Fisher
from a brilliant flick shot.
The period continued to move forward smoothly. However, after the middle part of the period things heated up once again resulting in both teams attacking. Defence was given some importance but offence was the main area of concentration for both sides.
Washington Capitals also made a few goal attempts as the end of the period approached. The period ended with the Ottawa Senators leading 1-0. During the course of the period, Ottawa Senators made 9 goal attempts while Washington Capitals made 5 goal attempts.
The game continued to follow the same pattern in the second period as well. There were a lot occasions where it looked as if a goal was on our way but unfortunately the teams kept on missing chances.
The midfield and defence for both teams was working perfectly but the offence lacked behind the two. Passing and combination of the players for both sides was absolutely brilliant. Despite the numerous chances in the period, no goals were scored and the
period ended goalless with Ottawa Senators leading 1-0 as they made 8 goal attempts and Washington Capitals made 12 goal attempts.
With the game up for grabs as the scores were level, both teams attacked right from the word go. Washington Capitals backed this by brilliant passing which resulted in the Capitals successfully scoring to level the scores in the 8th minute through
Brooks Laich’s snap shot.
In the very next minute, John Carlson scored from a long range powerful strike to put the Washington Capitals in the lead. After a quiet few minutes, both teams attacked once again but again it was Washington Capitals who scored to seal the match with the
goal score by Jason Chimera from a decent strike.
The period ended with no further goals despite the numerous goal attempts made by both teams. During the course of the period, Ottawa Senators made 6 goal attempts while Capitals made 9 goals and emerged as 3-1 winners of the match.
