2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: St. Louis Blues 5-1 thrash Anaheim Ducks

The 29th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the Scot trade Centre, this Monday. The match saw St. Louis Blues play against Anaheim Ducks at their home and emerge as the winners with a score of 5-1.
Some 20,000 fans were also present to cheer for their teams as Anaheim Ducks and St. Louis Blues were playing their 3rd and 2nd games of the series, respectively.
1st Period:
The home side, St. Louis Blues dominated the proceedings in the 1st period with their perfect defence as well as offence. Not only did they stop the Anaheim Ducks, but also kept them in their half for most of the time.
Blues took the first lead in the 4th minute as they scored through David Backes from 10 feet. They scored once again in the same minute and this time the goal scorer was Andy McDonald. Blues formed a good defensive combination along with an offence
that penetrated the Ducks' defence quite often.
The rest of the period was also dominated by the Blues as they came up with regular plays, passing that was smooth and shots that moved from close range to long range and were effective.
The period ended with the score being 2-0 in favour of Blues as they scored 2 goals out of their 15 goal attempts. The Ducks could only manage 4 shots while none were converted into goals.
2nd Period:
The home team again dominated in the 2nd period. Not only were they able to form a strong and tough defensive line, but they also came out with a stronger offence than the 1st period.
The Blues turned one of their chances into goal in the 6th minute of 2nd period to establish a 3 goal overall lead. This goal was scored by B.J Crombeen from 18 feet. The Ducks responded with their own goal in the 7th minute which was
scored by Saku Koivu from 15 feet. The match score was now 3-1 in favour of Blues.
The home team again scored in the 16th minute through Matt D’Agostini which put them in a comfortable position with 4-1 lead. The 2nd period ended on the same score as the Ducks made 4 goal attempts while Blues 22.
3rd Period:
The 3rd period was no different as the Blues dominated yet again and didn’t allow the Ducks to score more.
The Blues sealed their match victory when they scored in the 18th minute of the 3rd period, again through D’Agostini, who bagged his 2nd goal of the match. The match finally ended with the home team's victory by 5-1.
During the final period, Anaheim Ducks scored no goals out of their 6 goal attempts while St. Louis Blues scored once out of their 16 attempts.
Later, Anaheim's coach, Randy Carlyle commented, "Obviously, the sun is going to come up tomorrow -- we hope. What you have to do is take a self-analysis of what we can do better. There are lots of areas for us to improve in as a team."
On the other hand, Blues' defenseman, Barret Jackman said, "To be rewarded that early, it really helps to stick to your game plan. I think we did a good job throughout the game to do that."
