2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – St. Louis Blues defeat the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks 4-2
The St. Louis Blues played host to the defending Stanley Cup Champions, Chicago Blackhawks. The match took place this past Friday at the Scottrade Arena. There were around 20,000 fans that came to watch the match. This was the 96th game of the
2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series, as the Chicago Blackhawks played the 9th game and the St. Louis Blues played the 6th game of the regular season thus far. The match was pretty even during the first 2 periods of the match but the home
team was able to turn the tables in the final period and won the match 4-2.
1st Period
The home team started off in a brilliant manner as they dictated the game at the start. The St. Louis Blues didn’t give the defending any chance to settle early on in the period.
The home showed passing, play and shooting that kept the opposing team’s defence busy. The St. Louis Blues offence had too much power at the start and they scored to take the lead in the 7th minute. The goal was scored by David Perron through
a powerful shot that was fired from 26 feet.
After scoring the goal, the home team preferred staying back and defending. The Blackhawks took advantage of this by attacking and gained confidence in doing so. They scored a goal to level things in the 11th minute. The goal was scored by Patrick
Sharp who fired an amazing 39 feet shot that went flying into the goal. Both teams had more chances to score but the puck didn’t find the back of the end as the period ended with the score level at 1-1.
During the period, the home team made 12 goal attempts and the Chicago Blackhawks made 8 goals, both teams scored one goal each.
2nd Period
The home started the 2nd period displaying some excellent skill and passing. The performance they came up with surprised the defending champions at times.
The defending champions were stunned when the St. Louis Blues scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by a splendid 16 feet backhand shot by David Perron who bagged his 2nd goal of the night.
The Chicago Blackhawks also put their foot on the gas when they saw that the home team started to gain confidence. They started to shoot from long range and passed quickly which didn’t allow the home team to settle after the restart of the goal. The Chicago
Blackhawks paid off when they scored to level the score. The goal was scored Brent Seabrook in the 10th minute from a venomous shot from 50 feet.
The period ended with the scores still level at 3-3 with both team scoring one goal each during the period. During the period, the Chicago Blackhawks made 9 goal attempts and the St. Louis Blues made 7 goal attempts.
3rd Period
The 3rd period saw the defending champions attack the St. Louis Blues regularly and at times, it looked as if they would surely score. But this was not the case as they couldn’t score any goals during the period.
The St. Louis Blues sent the home crowd wild when they scored in the 12 minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Roman p***k from 31 feet shot. With the lead, confidence, backing of fans and determination all in their favour, the St. Louis Blues pressed
on in search for another goal.
They were successful in doing so and winning the match when they scored the 4th goal to take the score to 4-2. The goal was scored by Patrik Berglund from close range through a powerful strike. The period and the game ended on the same score as
the home team won the match. During the final period, the St. Louis Blues scored twice out of the 9 goal attempts they made.
"Just put it on the net," p***k said. "It was a tough puck. It was sticking on the boards so I just wanted to put it on the net. I had my head down and just put it through Turco's pads."
