2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: St. Louis Blues win 2-0 against New York Rangers
The 200th game of NHL regular season was played this Sunday at Madison Square Garden, home of New York Rangers. This was the 12th game of St. Louis Blues and 14th of New York Rangers. There were around 17,000 fans that came
out in support of their respective teams. The away team dominated much of the play as a result of which they won the match with the final score being 2-0.
Blues started in spectacular fashion as they made several goal attempts but to their disappointment, they couldn’t score early on. Coming with attacks every now and then along with some splendid pieces of play, Blues were still unable to find the back of
the net in the start.
Rangers also had their share of chances as they came up with several goal scoring attempts too but of no use. They had a chance to lead in the 13th minute with only the keeper to beat but the shot just went wide. Both teams went into the break
deadlocked at 0-0. In the first period, the home team made 8 goal attempts while Blues made 14 such attempts.
The 2nd period started on a high for the Blues once again as they fired some good early shots that almost went into the goal. Blues were rewarded for their hard work with a goal in the 6th minute that was scored by Alexander Steen through
a flick shot from 41 feet.
On the other hand, the home team couldn’t score as the period ended with the score at 1-0. During the course of the period, the home team made 7 goal attempts while Blues made 5.
The final period saw the home team desperately trying to level things up. There was no shortage of chances but the only thing the home team lacked was the ability to convert these chances into goals.
It were the Blues who again scored in the 18th minute to double their lead and ultimately win the match 2-0. The second goal was also scored by Alexander Steen through a brilliant flick shot from 28 feet. In the final period, New York Rangers
made 12 goal attempts while St. Louis Blues made 3 such attempts.
