2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – St. Louis Blues win 3-0 against the Nashville Predators
The Nashville Predators played their 9th game of the 2010 Compuware Premiere Series as they played host to the St. Louis Blues this Thursday. This was the 8th game for the St. Louis Blues thus far and the 133rd game of the
regular season. The game took place in front of 16,000 fans, as they came to witness one of the most exciting encounters in the season at the Bridgestone Arena, home of the Nashville Predators. The away team looked the stronger of the two teams from the started
and they proved this in the end winning the game 3-0 at the end.
1st Period
The St. Louis Blues started the period adopting a very attacking mentality from the beginning. They made attacks from the start and the almost scored from the very first play of the match. However, the shot just went wide of the target.
The home team looked more confident out of the two though the backing of the home crowd was in favour of the home team that didn’t seem to matter as the away team dominated. In the middle part of the period, the away team took the foot off the gas and started
to wait for opportunities.
Though the Nashville Predators got their chances to score but they couldn’t find a way past the defence and when they did, the goal keeper was there like a brick wall every time. With the period nearing its end, the St. Louis Blues started to raise the pace
of the game once again and the home team wasn’t able to cope up with the Blues which resulted in more scoring opportunities for the St. Louis Blues.
However, the period ended with both teams deadlocked with the score 0-0 and the away team managing 15 goal attempts during the course of the period and the home team making 8 goal attempts but neither of teams scored to take the lead.
2nd Period
The Nashville Predators started the 2nd period strongly but again it was the offence which lacked the power to find the back of the net. The period saw a single goal as both goal keeper came up with commendable performances. Defence or no defence,
the goal keepers were like a one man army.
However, the St. Louis Blues scored the only goal of the period to take the lead. The goal was scored by Alexander Steen in the 13th minute through a splendid shot from 9 feet. The period didn’t see further goals as the home team was trailing
going into the break.
During the course of the period, the home team made 11 goal attempts not scoring any goals and the St. Louis Blues made 12 goal attempts scoring 1 goal.
3rd Period
The 3rd period saw the home team come to the field determined to score. Again, like the previous 2 periods, the home team had their chances to level the game but they couldn’t score.
The first goal of the period was scored by the St. Louis Blues. The goal was a repeat of the previous goal resulting from a counter attack. The goal was scored by Patrik Berglund from a flick shot from 21 feet. The home went on the attack once again with
nothing to lose.
However, much to the disappointment of everybody they were caught on the counter attack once again and the St. Louis Blues scored once again to seal the win. The goal was scored by Matt D’Agostini from a tip in shot from 7 feet in the 16th minute.
During the period, the St. Louis Blues scored 2 goals out of the 7 goals and the Nashville Predators made 5 goal attempts without any goals.
Regarding the goal keeper one of the defence men of the St. Louis Blues said,
"He's such a fun goalie to watch because he looks like he's not even trying," defenseman Erik Johnson said.
"He's so effortless in his motions, and there's no wasted energy with him. We feel so confident with him and he's so cool, calm and collected; we know that we can go in the offensive zone and attack there if we have any hiccups, so he's been a great,
great asset for us."
