2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – St. Louis Blues win 3-1 against the Los Angeles Kings
The 652nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the Staples Arena, home of the Los Angeles Kings. The match was played in front of 18,000 fans with the Los Angeles Kings up against the St. Louis Blues. The match was played
this Thursday with both the teams playing the 43rd game of their respective campaign.
St. Louis Blues managed to be the productive side of the night and successfully bagged three goals to emerge as 3-1 winners of the match. Erik Johnson was awarded the player of the match award for his assist and good work back in the defence.
Both teams started off slowly but as it has been the case in most matches, they turned stronger and stronger with each passing minute. There were several scoring opportunities for both sides at the start of the match but the shots kept on going wide or were
successfully stopped by the goal keepers.
Los Angeles Kings almost scored in the 10th minute as they attacked with full but unfortunately they were caught on a counter attack as a result which cost them dearly. St. Louis Blues took the lead capitalizing from the chance scoring through
BJ Crombeen from a well placed flick shot in the 12th minute.
There weren’t many chances after the goal with both teams shifting to defensive mode and the period ended with St. Louis Blues leading 1-0. During the course of the period, St. Louis Blues made 8 goal attempts while the Los Angeles Kings made 5 goal attempts.
The second saw both teams come out with a little more attacking mentality. The positive approach to the game resulted in both teams coming across scoring chances. With the strong attacks and perfect combination, Los Angeles Lakers managed to score and level
the scores much to the delight of the home fans.
The goal was scored by Michal Handzus from a well placed shot in the 6th minute. A few minutes passed without much to talk about but Ryan Reaves silenced the home crowd with a goal in the 15th minute that put the away side in the driving
seat.
Both teams continued to attack and were determined to bag more goals. However, it was St. Louis Blues who scored the final goal of the period to lead by two goals. The goal was scored by Alexander Steen from a quick fired powerful strike in the 19th
minute.
The period ended with the St. Louis Blues leading 3-1 at the end of the second period with both teams making 9 goal attempts each.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Los Angeles Kings come up with quite a few goal attempts but they weren’t able to score. On the other hand, St. Louis Blues also had the share of the scoring chances catching the Kings defence off guard on a few occasions
but they too couldn’t score.
The period and match ended with St. Louis Blues winning the match 3-1 which is also their first win of 2011. During the final period, St. Louis Blues made 4 goal attempts while Los Angeles Kings made 11 goal attempts.
