2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Tampa Bay Lightning win 2-0 against the Toronto Maple Leafs
Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs this Tuesday as part of the 739th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match took place at the St. Pete Times Forum with around 14,000 fans coming to witness the match as the home
team Tampa Bay Lightning looked to climb their way to the top of the table.
The first period was totally dominated by the Tampa Bay Lightning which saw them scoring twice. These two goals proved to be the difference in the end as a Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 2-0. Dwayne Roloson was named the star selection of the match after
he kept the clean sheet intact making 26 saves in the match.
Tampa Bay Lightning started very strong firing shots from everywhere on the pitch. From the way they played, it looked as if it was the second or third period. The success rate of passing coupled with the hard work they put in early on saw them scoring through
Simon Gagne in the 6th minute to get into the lead.
Tampa Bay Lightning didn’t give the Toronto Maple Leafs any space to work and continued to dominate the period. However, there were the occasional shots by Toronto Maple Leafs but they didn’t threaten the goal. Tampa Bay Lightning with the strong attacks
and pieces of play successfully scored through Teddy Purcell in the 13th minute to double their lead.
Tampa Bay Lightning continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence and with the strong plays got past them on quite a few occasions. However, the shots started go wide and the long range shooting increased. The period didn’t see any further goal and
ended up with the Tampa Bay Lightning leading 2-0. During the course of the period Tampa Bay Lightning made 17 goal attempts while the Toronto Maple Leafs were restricted to just 4 goal attempts.
The second period saw winds change direction as Toronto Maple Leafs started emerged as the stronger team after a few early goal attempts made by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Toronto Maple Leafs looked a totally changed team as they second period started by the
front line failed to score early on.
The period saw Tampa Bay Lightning making a few goal attempts as well but they couldn’t score. It looked as if Toronto Maple Leafs would score in the 15th minute but Phil Kessel’s shot went just wide of the target. The period ended with Tampa
Bay Lightning leading 2-0. During the period, Tampa Bay made 4 goal attempts while Toronto Maple Leafs made 13 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams come up with a decent performance as they made a few goal attempts and on the other hand, the defence was also good. There weren’t any goals during the course of the final period and Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 2-0.
The final period saw the Toronto Maple Leafs making 9 goal attempts while Tampa Bay Lightning made 10 goal attempts.
