2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Tampa Bay Lightning win 2-1 against the Buffalo Sabres
An attendance of 18,000 fans was observed at the HSBC Arena as the home team Buffalo Sabres was in action this Saturday. The match saw the Buffalo Sabres play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of the 284th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL
Premiere Series. This was the 20th game for the Tampa Bay Lightning while the Buffalo Sabres played their 22nd game.
The match started off in spectacular fashion for the home team as they dominated the first half of the period. Their passing and shooting didn’t let the away team settle.
The home team was successful in scoring in the 5th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Thomas Vanek through a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net.
As time passed in the period, the away team also started to pile up attacks. Keeping possession for some time, they managed to come up with excellent passing that helped them break past the opposing defence frequently.
The away team was successful in scoring in the 19th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Teddy Purcell from a simple tip in shot. The period ended with the teams’ level at 1-1. During the course of the period, the home team made
7 goal attempts while the visitors made 10 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw both the teams come out in search of another goal which resulted in some brilliant passing and shooting displayed by both the teams.
The attacks were very strong but the defence of both the teams was able to keep them quite. The Tampa Bay Lightning put quite a lot of pressure on the home team and was successful in taking the lead with a goal in the 12th minute of the period.
The goal was scored by Adam Hall from a wonderful backhand shot.
The period saw the Buffalo Sabres making 11 goal attempts but they failed to covert any of their chances into goals as the period ended 2-1 in favour of the away side who made 9 goal attempts during the period.
The final period of the match saw the home team explode in search of a goal as they trailed by just one goal. The Tampa Bay Lightning concentrated on defence rather than attacking. The away team made 3 goal attempts but out of which 1 almost went into the
goal.
However, despite the desperate attempts made by the Buffalo Sabres to score, they failed and lost the match 2-1.
