The 38th match of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Montreal Candiens host the Tampa Bay Lightning. The match took place at the Centre Bell, home of the Montreal Candiens this Wednesday. With an attendance of almost 22,000, the home
fans were demanded a win from the Montreal Candiens. However, this was not to be despite the despite attempts of the Montreal Candiens the Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 4-3 after scoring in the overtime.
1st Period
The 1st period saw the away side, the Tampa Bay Lightning come up with scoring opportunities at the start. Neither of the teams was concentrating on the defence that resulted in numerous scoring opportunities for both teams.
It was the home team that had the momentum and with the home crowd cheering for them, the Montreal Candiens scored in the 6th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Maxim Lapierre from 34 feet. Taking the lead, the home team was still
didn’t maintain a tight defence. In fact, they were pushing for another goal to establish a 2 goal lead.
They were successful in doing so when they scored in the 19th minute to take the score to 2-0 in their favour. The goal was scored by Tomas Plekanec from a 40 feet slap off. The period ended with the same score as the home team, Montreal Candiens
was cheered off by the charismatic NHL home fans.
During the course of the first 20 minutes, the Montreal Canadiens scored twice out of the 13 goal attempts. The Tampa Bay Lightning didn’t lack goal attempts; in fact, they made 18 goal attempts but couldn’t score a goal.
 2nd Period
The 2nd period started on a high for the away side and they managed to fire shots at the opposing goal on regular basis.
They got a reward for the hard work of last period as well as this when they scored through Brett Clark. The goal was scored in the 2nd minute from 56 feet through a slap off. The Tampa Bay Lightning couldn’t score again in the period and neither
could the home team, Montreal Canadiens. The score remained 2-1 in favour of the Montreal Candiens.
Unlike the 1st period, the Tampa Bay Lightning was able to form a good defence that restricted the Montreal Candiens from entering the Tampa Bay Lightning defence. With very less chance and still in the lead, the Montreal Canadiens were hoping
that they would win.
During the period, the Montreal Canadiens could manage just 6 shots and the Tampa Bay Lightning scored once out of the 12 goal attempts they made.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were they first to score in the period and levelled the score at 2-2 when they scored in the 11th minute of the period through a 9 feet wrist shot by Martin St. Louis. The home team responded immediately when they scored
in the 12th minute to take the lead once again with the score 3-2. The goal was scored by Andrei Kostitsyn when he hit an excellent 12 feet backhand.
Tampa Bay Lightning silenced the crowd when they scored in the 19th minute to level things and take the match into overtime. The goal scorer was Steven Stamkos, who scored through a 13 feet wrist off shot.
With the game into overtime, the Tampa Bay Lightning looked the stronger of the two teams and they scored in the 5th minute to win the match, through Ryan Malone’s goal. The Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 4-3 defeating the Montreal Canadiens
on their first home game.
"For the guys who have been here the last couple of years, that's exactly what we've been missing -- that killer instinct, that quiet confidence that you have the talent, the work ethic and drive to come back," said Stamkos, the first pick in the
2008 Entry Draft who scored 51 goals last season and already has three through two games this season.
"We had a shaky first period, the coach let us know about that, but the last two periods we took it took it to them."
