2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Toronto Maple Leafs win 3-1 against New Jersey Devils

The Toronto Maple Leafs versus the New Jersey Devils was the 270th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played at the Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs this Thursday in front of 19,000 fans.
This was the 19th game for the New Jersey Devils while the Toronto Maple Leafs played their 18th game of the campaign thus far.
The away team was quick to start as they displayed some brilliant skill on the ice. Their passing was almost perfect and the attacks that developed were very dangerous but to their disappointment, they couldn’t score.
They came close to scoring in the 5th minute of the period only to be denied by the goal keeper and again in the 7th minute but this time it was the goal post that was in the way.
The home team also had their share of chances as they gained confidence as time passed in the period. They also came close to scoring on several occasions but couldn’t find the back of the net either as the period ended goalless with the scores dead locked
at 0-0.
During the course of the period, the Toronto Maple Leafs made 9 goal attempts while the New Jersey Devils made 6 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw both the teams change their strategies and came out determined to score. The home team was able to break the deadlock with a goal in the 2nd minute of the period. The goal was scored by Mikhail Grabovski through a
wonderful strike that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The Toronto Maple Leafs doubled the lead with another goal in the 8th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Phil Kessel through a decent flick shot that was perfectly placed.
However, the New Jersey Devils also scored in the 11th minute to cut the lead to just 1 goal giving them some hope of a comeback. The goal was scored by Dainius Zubrus from a simple tip in shot.  The period ended with no further goals as the Maple
Leafs led 2-1 and made 11 goal attempts while the New Jersey Devils made 12 goal attempts.
There is nothing much to talk about except for the fact that the Toronto Maple Leafs secured the match with a goal in the 14th minute of the match to win 3-1. The goal was scored by Kris Versteeg from a powerful strike that was destined to go
into the back of the net. The period of the match saw the New Jersey Devils making 12 goal attempts while the Toronto Maple Leafs made 7 goal attempts.
