2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Toronto Maple Leafs win 3-1 against the Montreal Canadiens (Weekend Roundup II)
This Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the 427th game of the season as they faced the Montreal Canadiens. The game was played at the Air Canada Centre in front of 20,000 fans with the Canadiens playing the 30th game, while the
Maple Leafs played the 29th game of campaign.
Toronto Maple Leafs made a superb start to the match as they came up with a very strong offence coupled with a very tight defence. The home team successfully scored in the 8th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Phil Kessel from a
brilliant backhand shot.
The home team continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence which resulted in them going past the defence regularly. The home team successfully scored another goal in the 11th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Tomas Kaberle
from a decent flick shot.
The home team kept on pressing on with the strong offence but they could find the back of the net as the period ended 2-0 in favour of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 2nd period saw the home team’s attacks totally shut down but the strong defence of the Montreal Canadiens. The defence was very well organized and had a lot of confidence in making challenges. Montreal Canadiens scored in the 15th
minute of the 2nd period to bag their first goal.
The goal was scored by Michael Cammalleri from a decent strike. They made a few more goal attempts but couldn’t score. The period ended with the Toronto Maple Leafs leading 2-1.
The final period saw the Toronto Maple Leafs continue the form they showed in the first period. This resulted in the Maple Leafs scoring in the 20th minute of the final period to score their 3rd goal. The goal was scored by Kris Versteeg
from a superb long range shot. Consequently, this resulted in the Maple Leafs winning the match 3-1.
Detroit Red Wings win 4-1 against the New Jersey Devils
Detroit Red Wings made a brilliant start to the 428th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series as they fired shots every now and then.
The away side successfully scored in the 18th second of the match to take the lead. The goal was scored by Tomas Homstrom from a decent strike. The Detroit Red Wings early pressure until they doubled the lead with another goal in the 2nd
minute of the period. The goal was scored by Danny Cleary from another well placed shot.
The score at the end of the 1st period was 2-0 in favour of the Detroit Red Wings despite the fact that the Detroit Red Wings made numerous goal attempts as the end of the period neared. The period saw the Red Wings making 13 goal attempts while
the New Jersey Devils could manage just 3 goal attempts.
The 2nd period was evenly matched between the two teams as they had the share of the chances. The away side was able to score in the 12th minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was scored by Henrik Zetterberg from a decent strike.
The period ended with the score 3-0 in favour of the Detroit Red Wings as they made 8 goal attempts, while the New Jersey Devils made 12 goal attempts.
The final period saw the New Jersey Devils score early in the first minute. But this was no more than a consolation with the goal scored by Patrik Elias. However, the Detroit Red Wings sealed the match as they scored in the 11th minute through
Pavel Datsyuk’s shot.
The period and the match ended with the Detroit Red Wings winning 4-1. During the final period, the Red Wings made 4 goal attempts while the Devils made 9 goal attempts.
