2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Atlanta Thrashers win 3-2 against the Florida Panthers after a tight match in shootout

Florida Panther playing host to the Atlanta Thrashers was played Monday and was the 681th
game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match took place at the Bank Atlantic Centre with around 11,000 fans coming to witness the match.
The match was a hard fought contest with both teams battling out hard and levelling the scores at the end of the regulation time with no goals in overtime as well. However, Atlanta’s productivity in shootout proved to be the difference as they won the match
3-2 in the end. Alexander Burmistrov, centre of the Atlanta Thrashers was the star selection of the match as he was one of the key elements in almost all the attacks that the Atlanta Thrashers constructed.
Both the teams were observed making a cautious start to the match. They concentrated on defence and made the occasional attacks early on. However, during these attacks both teams had the chances to score but the offence failed to provide the breakthrough
for both sides.
Shots were fired from everywhere on the pitch as the period neared its end. During the course of the period Atlanta Thrashers made 7 goal attempts while the Florida Panthers made 12 goal attempts but unfortunately, no goals were scored as the period ended
with the scores level on 0-0.
The second period was a little stronger for the Atlanta Thrashers if we talk about their offence. Otherwise, it was almost the same as the first period. There were shots from both teams and some brilliant pieces of the play were observed from both sides.
There were several occasions where it was almost certain that a goal would be scored but much to the disappointment, no goals were scored in this period as well as the period ended with the scores deadlocked on 0-0. During the course of the period, Atlanta
Thrashers made 12 goal attempts while Florida Panthers made 10 goal attempts.
Florida Panthers was definitely the stronger of the two teams at the start of the final period as they attacked right from the word go. Florida Panthers opened their account scoring through Dennis Wideman in the 5th minute. A few minutes later,
in the 8th minute Florida Panthers scored once again through Dmitry Kulikov from a brilliant backhand shot to double their lead.
A win looked almost certain for the Panthers but surprisingly Atlanta Thrashers scored twice in the 19th minute to level the scores. The goals were scored by Bryan Little and Chris Thornburn respectively. Thrashers certainly finished the period
on a high but without any further goals.
The regulation time ended with the scores level on 2-2. The match went into overtime but no goals were scored during the hard fought contest over there as well.
Consequently, the match went into shootout where Alexander Burmistrov’s goal won the match 3-2 for the Atlanta Thrashers.
