2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Buffalo Sabres win 3-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes

The second game of Thursday saw the Buffalo Sabres play host to the Carolina Hurricanes. The match was played at the HSBC Arena with both teams playing the 43rd game of their respective campaign. This was the 647th game of the 2010
Compuware NHL Premiere Series with around 18,000 fans coming to witness the match. The match turned out to be very tight in the end but the Buffalo Sabres managed to hold the Hurricanes and win the match 3-2 in the end. Thomas Vanek, winger of the Buffalo
Sabres was named the star selection of the match for his two assists.
Carolina Hurricanes started off the proceeding side by side Buffalo Sabres. Replying to every attack they made and kept possession when needed. Combining well from the very start of the match, both teams had scoring chances. The goal attempts made by the
teams early on didn’t find the back of the net due to some excellent goal keeping by both goal keepers.
With the passage of time, the attacks started to intensify and a goal was coming soon. The first and only goal of the first period was scored in favour of the Buffalo Sabres scored by Nathan Gerbe in the 15th minute.
Both teams continued to fire shots on goal but no further goals were scored as the period came to an end. Buffalo Sabres led 1-0 at the end of the period with Carolina Hurricanes making 10 goal attempts while Buffalo Sabres made 8.
Carolina Hurricanes started off brilliantly once again attacking the opposing goal regularly. The difference in this period was that unlike the first period, Carolina Hurricanes successfully scored in the 6th minute through Tuomo Ruutu from a
simple tip in shot.
After Carolina scored, Buffalo Sabres started to come up with strong attacks and with some brilliant passing managed to get past the opposing defence regularly. It didn’t take long for the home team to get into the lead.
Buffalo Sabres successfully scored through Cody McCormick from a flick shot. Buffalo Sabres continued to pile pressure on the Hurricanes but failed to convert several other scoring chances that they got till the end of the period. The period ended with the
Buffalo Sabres leading 2-1 as they made 18 goal attempts while the Carolina Hurricanes made 11 goal attempts.
The final period was again one of the hard fought and tight periods that saw Buffalo Sabres score first this time. The goal was scored by Drew Stafford from a decent strike. Carolina Hurricanes trailing by two goals had nothing to lose so they went on the
attack looking to score.
They finally scored in the last minute of the game through Jeff Skinner to trail by just one goal but despite getting more scoring chances they failed to score any further goals.
The period and the match ended with the Buffalo Sabres winning the match 3-2. During the course of the period, Carolina Hurricanes made 8 goal attempts while Buffalo Sabres made 9 goal attempts.
