2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Columbus Blue Jackets in 4-3 against the Ottawa Senators after overtime

Columbus Blue Jackets playing host to the Ottawa Senators was another one of the encounters of the lower placed teams in the league standings. This was the 561st game of the season was played this Friday at the Nationwide Arena. The match met
the expectations and turned out to be a tight and entertaining encounter which was won by Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime at the end. Jakub Voracek was named the star selection of the match with his goal and an assist.
Ottawa Senators despite playing away made a great start to the match. They combined very well in the beginning and came up with some strong attacks. The home team’s defence was up to the mark with as they blocked the shot and cut all attacks that may have
turned out to be dangerous.
Columbus Blue Jackets started to settle with the passage of time and made some decent attacks. Columbus Blue Jackets scored in the 11th minute to take the lead through a spectacular goal scored by RJ Umberger.
After taking the lead, the home team made a few more goal attempts but realizing that they weren’t going to score Columbus Blue Jackets switched into defence mode. The period ended with the home team leading 1-0.
The second period started off stronger for the Senators once again and they made a couple of goal attempts early on but with little success.
However, it was the home team that scored two goals in quick succession to take the score to 3-0. The first goal was scored in the 13th minute by Samuel Pahlsson while the second was scored by Captain Rick Nash in the 16th minute.
Ottawa Senators also stepped up their game and came across scoring chances out of which they converted one in the 19th minute by Mike Fisher from a decent flick shot. The period ended with Columbus Blue Jackets leading 3-1.
The final period proved to be very productive for the Ottawa Senators as they score in the 2nd minute to cut the lead to just one goal. The goal was scored by Nick Folingo from a powerful strike. Columbus Blue Jackets dominated the period and
scored once again in the 19th minute through Captain Daniel Alfredsson to level the scores.
With the scores level on 3-3 and regulation time ended, the match went into overtime. During the overtime Columbus Blue Jackets scored through Jakub Voracek to win the match 4-3.
