2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Minnesota Wild beat Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0
Another one of the game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Pittsburgh Penguins play host to the Minnesota Wild. The match was played in front of 18,000 fans. This was the 616th game of the regular season with Minnesota Wild playing
their 41st game while Pittsburgh Penguins played their 43rd game. Though Pittsburgh Penguins was the stronger of the two sides but Minnesota Wild came up with a brilliant performance and win the match 4-0. Jose Theodore, goalie of the
Minnesota Wild was named the star selection of the match as he made 26 saves out of 26 shots fired towards his goal.
Both teams made a decent start to the match which saw them not being too offensive and not being too defensive. Both teams looked to contain but as half of the period past, Minnesota Wild shifted gears and start to come up with strong pieces of play.
Their passing was splendid which led them to scoring through Chuck Kobasew from a tip in shot to take the lead in the 14th minute. Pittsburgh Penguins also had scoring chances but they failed to capitalize. On the contrary, Minnesota Wild bagged
their second goal through Martin Havlat’s flick shot.
A few more goal attempts were seen with the period ending but no more goals were seen as Minnesota led 2-0 going into the break. During the course of the period both teams made 10 goal attempts each.
Pittsburgh Penguins started off strong in the second period firing shots on goal but the goal keeper was excellent. There were several occasions where it looked as if the Penguins would score but Jose Theodore ensured that he would maintain the clean sheet.
Minnesota Wild also shifted gears and started to attack. After the first two goal attempts there was a bombardment of shots from the Minnesota Wild on the Penguins goal. However, luckily for the Pittsburgh Penguins the period ended goalless with Minnesota
Wild leading 2-0. This was despite the 18 goal attempts made by Minnesota Wild!
The final period was dominated by Minnesota Wild in offence and defence. In defence, Minnesota Wild restricted the Penguins to only 6 goal attempts in the period while they made 9 goal attempts.
Talking about their offence, they managed to score in the 7th minute through Cal Cutterbuck and then through Kyle Brodziak from a backhand shot to win the match 4-0.
