2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Phoenix Coyotes win 4-3 against the Columbus Blue Jackets
Another one of the important games of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was the Columbus Blue Jackets hosting the Phoenix Coyotes this Tuesday. The match was played at the Nationwide Arena with around 11,000 fans coming to witness the match. This was
the 637th game of the regular season with each team playing the 43rd game of the respective season. Martin Hanzal, centre of the Phoenix Coyotes was named the player of the match for his two assists he made as the Coyotes emerged as 4-3
winners of the match.
Both teams were pretty much evenly matched in terms of chances created and play making. However, Coyotes missed a few chances early on which were surely going to hurt them later.
This is exactly what happened as Columbus Blue Jackets scored through Jared Boll from a tip in shot in the 2nd minute to take the lead. Columbus Blue Jackets got a lot of confidence from this and pressed on in search of another goal.
Columbus Blue successfully doubled their lead with another goal in the 6th minute score by Rostislav Klesla from a long range powerful strike. Phoenix Coyotes also created chances for themselves but the failure to convert them into goals resulted
in the Blue Jackets leading 2-0 at the end of the period with both teams making 11 goal attempts in the period.
The second period was again one of those periods where chances kept on coming for both side. It was just a matter of time as to when we would see another goal.
Phoenix Coyotes struck first in the period this time scoring through Vernon Fiddler from a simple tip in shot. However, Columbus Blue Jackets successfully scored exactly one minute after Coyotes scored to regain the two goals advantage. The goal was scored
by Kristian Huselius from a decent close range shot.
Phoenix stunned the home team as they scored once again with the very first play after restart to cut the lead to one goal once again with the goal scored by Eric Belanger from a brilliant tip in shot.
The period ended with Columbus Blue Jackets leading 3-2 as both teams made 13 goal attempts in the period.
Phoenix Coyotes made a great start to the final period scoring in the very first minute to level the score with the goal scored by Radim Vrbata. Columbus Blue Jackets were definitely stronger on the offence but Phoenix Coyotes score the all important goal
that put them in the lead after a quick counter attack. The goal was scored by Derek Morris from a powerful strike in the 11th minute.
Columbus Blue Jackets tried desperately to score but they couldn’t score as the Phoenix Coyotes won the match 4-3.
"That goal at the end, obviously when you lose four in a row that is the type of goal that goes in," Columbus coach Scott Arniel said. "When you are on winning streaks those stay out."
"We gave up a couple early but we came in, we had nothing to lose," Coach of Phoenix Coyotes Dave Tippett said. "We got here at 3 o'clock in the morning, in a snowstorm. (This was) just a good night for hockey and our guys were enjoying it. We felt like
we could come back."
