2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Phoenix Coyotes win 4-3 against the St. Louis Blues
St. Louis Blues played host to the Phoenix Coyotes at the Scottrade Centre this Monday. The match saw around 19,000 fans come to attend the match which was the 629th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. St. Louis Blues went trailing
into the final period where they managed to take the lead but the Phoenix Coyotes offence was very strong as bagged goals and won the match 4-3. Taylor Pyatt was named the star selection of the match for the winner goal he scored as Phoenix Coyotes emerged
as 4-3 winners of the match.
After a slow start to the match, both teams gained momentum and started to come up with attacks. Not only were attacks part of their game but they came up with brilliant play making and passing. Shots flew from everywhere on the pitch and regularly.
The defence of both teams was up to the mark but a mistake later in the 19th minute of the first period cost the Coyotes dearly. The result was St. Louis Blues scoring through David Backes to take the lead. There were a few more goal attempts
made as the period neared its end but unfortunately, no further goals were seen as the period ended with St. Louis Blues leading 1-0. During the period, both teams made 10 goal attempts each.
Phoenix Coyotes made a great start to the second period as they started with an attacking mentality and fired shots right from the word go. The determination to score coupled with the hard work resulted in the Coyotes levelling the score in the 7th
minute through Lauri Korpikoski. Coyotes kept on knocking the door and managed to score once again in the 10th minute through Lee Stempniak from a brilliant backhand shot.
After taking the lead Phoenix Coyotes took the foot off the gas and slowed things. Both teams made couple of shots on goal but no goals were scored as the period ended with Phoenix Coyotes leading 2-1. During the period, Coyotes made 15 goal attempts while
St. Louis Blues made 8 goal attempts.
St. Louis Blues started the final period attacking which caught the Phoenix Coyotes by surprise. The home crowd went wild when the St. Louis Blues scored two goals in the third minute to take the lead. The first goal was scored by Matt D’Agostini while the
second goal was scored by Brad Winchester from a simple tip in shot.
However, Phoenix Coyotes stepped up their game and with the strong passing and shooting abilities; they scored through Tyler Turris in the 10th minute to level the scores. The constant hard work and determination led to the Phoenix Coyotes taking
the lead in the 17th minute when Taylor Pyatt scored through a brilliant wrap around shot.
St. Louis Blues made more than a dozen goal attempts as the period neared its end. However, no goals were scored as the Phoenix Coyotes won the match 4-3 in the end. During the final 20 minutes of play, Coyotes made 8 goal attempts while St. Louis Blues
made 17 goal attempts.
