2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Vancouver Canucks fall 4-3 in overtime against Colorado Avalanche and lose the league lead to Flyers
One of the most anticipated matches of Tuesday was the Vancouver Canucks going to the Pepsi Centre as Colorado Avalanche played host. This was the 46th game of the season for both sides and 690th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series. With the Philadelphia Flyers winning their game, Vancouver Canucks had to win their game if they wanted to maintain the lead up front.
Unfortunately, this didn’t happen as the match turned out to be quite a contest which saw the scores being level at the end of regulation time. However, Colorado Avalanche much to shock of everybody emerged as 4-3 winners of the match scoring in overtime.
Milan Hejduk was named the star selection of the match for his goal and two assists.
Both teams made a decent start to the match with Vancouver Canucks dominating the proceedings early on. The domination was soon rewarded as the Canucks took the lead in the 3rd minute. The goal was scored by Alexander Edler from a powerful long
range shot that went flying into the back of the net.
Both teams kept on attacking with the Colorado Avalanche stepping up their game. The home team with the backing of the crowd was able to score through John-Michael Liles in the 16th minute through a brilliant strike.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Colorado Avalanche making 11 goal attempts while Vancouver Canucks made 12 goal attempts.
The attacking mentality by both teams continued as the second period started. The shots flew from everywhere on the pitch and regularly.
The first goal of the period took some time to be scored. The goal was scored by Ryan Kesler from a simple tip in shot in the 11th minute. Colorado Avalanche also attacked with the perfect passing also scored and levelled the scores once again.
The goal was scored by David Jones in the 13th minute. There were a couple smooth minutes in the game which saw the puck going to and fro on the pitch. As the period neared its end, both teams started to attack once again.
Vancouver Canucks with the perfect strategy managed to score once again in the 19th minute to take the lead once again. The goal was scored by Sergei Shirokov from a brilliant backhand shot. Colorado Avalanche scored once again through Milan Hejduk
in the final minute to level the scores once again. The period saw Canucks making 18 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 9 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams coming up with a few goal attempts during the 20 minutes of play. Unfortunately, no goals were scored in the period and the scores were level on 2-2 at the end of regulation time.
The match went into overtime where David Jones scored to win the match 4-3 in the end.
