2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Updates – Vancouver Canucks thrash Columbus Blue Jackets 7-3 despite playing away
Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets was the venue for the 512th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played this Thursday as the home team was up against the Vancouver Canucks. The away side was on a mission
to win the match right from the start of the match scoring thrice in the open two period to eventually win the match 7-3. This was the 33rd game of the season for the Vancouver Canucks while the Columbus Blue Jackets played the 34th game
of the season.
A few early goal attempts were all that the home team could manage in the opening period of the match. They could have very well scored from these but the finishing was poor at the start.
However, with the passage of time as the away team settled, their confidence grew. The confidence coupled with the hard work and determination saw them scoring in the 10th minute through Alexandre Burrows from decent strike to get into the lead.
Vancouver Canucks continued to put pressure and successfully scored once again in the 13th minute through Christian Ehrhoff from a well placed flick shot. A minute later, the away side completed their dominating performance with their third goal.
The goal was scored by Raffi Torres from a simple tip in shot.
The attacks continued till the end of the period but no further goals were scored as the Vancouver Canucks led 3-0. During the course of the period Vancouver Canucks made 17 goal attempts while the Columbus Blue Jackets made just 5 goal attempts.
Vancouver Canucks continued to dictate the game in the 2nd period and scored once again in the 5th minute to take the score to 4-0. The goal was scored by Daniel Sedin.
There was a lot of smoothness in the attacks led by the Canucks. Columbus Blue Jackets restricted the Canucks to less goal attempts this time but still the attacks continued to flow. Vancouver Canucks successfully scored once again in the 9th
minute through Ryan Kesler.
Scoring their sixth goal of the night in the 13th minute through Henrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks sealed the win according to many NHL experts.
However, the home team opened their account with a goal in the 16th minute through RJ Umberger from a brilliant wrap around shot.
The period ended with Vancouver Canucks leading 6-1. Canucks made 7 goal attempts in the period while the Blue Jackets made 6 goal attempts.
Vancouver Canucks scored their final goal of the night in the 7th minute of the final period through Raffi Torres’s tip in shot handing him his second goal of the night.
However, the Columbus Blue Jackets gave the home fans something to enjoy as they scored in the 10th and 13th minutes scored by RJ Umberger and Tom Sestito.
The period didn’t see more goals as the Vancouver Canucks won the match 7-3. During the course of the match Canucks made 30 goal attempts while the Blue Jackets made 27 goal attempts. Henrik Sedin was named the star player of the match with his goal and
three assists.
"We knew that they were sitting here waiting for us, that they would be ready and come out with a good start," Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said. "We got the lead and then they had to open it up a little bit. When they made a few mistakes we were able
to capitalize."
