2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Vancouver Canucks tied for the league lead after thrashing Dallas Stars 7-1
One of the important games of the season was the Vancouver Canucks hosting the Dallas Stars. A win was necessary for the Canucks if they were to give the Flyers a tough time in the race for finishing first in the league. This was the 732nd game
of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series with both teams playing the 49th game of their respective season.
Vancouver Canucks absolutely dominated the game and scored regularly throughout the match. The result was a dominating score-line of 7-1 in favour of the Canucks which tied them for the league lead with the Flyers on 69 points. Vancouver Canucks centre,
Ryan Kesler was named the star selection of the match for his goal and assist.
The period started off with the Canucks attacking right from the word go. They created chances through some excellent work in the middle. The hard work early on and positive approach saw them scoring in the 2nd minute to take the lead with the
goal scored by Alexandre Burrows from a powerful strike.
Dallas Stars managed to respond to this with a goal in the 8th minute scored by Brad Richards from a spectacular backhand shot. The goal was scored as a result of a defence lapse. However, Canucks were able to get back together and successfully
score through Ryan Kesler in the 10th minute to get back into the lead.
After the restart, Vancouver Canucks continued to attack and managed to score in the very next minute through Christian Ehrhoff from another powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net. Vancouver Canucks made a few more goal attempts as the
period ended. The home side led 3-1 going into the break as they made 12 goal attempts in the period while Dallas Stars made 10 goal attempts.
The second period was again dominated by the Vancouver Canucks both defensively and offensively. The goal attempts that the Dallas Stars made during the course of the period were from long range as they couldn’t come near the Canucks goal.
On the other hand, the offence was superb on counter attacks and constructing plays. The home team backed by the home crowd scored their fourth goal through Mikael Samuelsson in the 4th minute. The period progressed smoothly with the Vancouver
Canucks controlling the pace of the game.
Canucks according to many sealed the match with the second goal of the period scored by Henrik Sedin from a brilliant flick shot in the 12th minute. There were a couple of more goal attempts by the Vancouver Canucks as the period neared its end
but no further goals were scored.
Vancouver Canucks led 5-1 at the end of the second period as they came up with 12 goal attempts in the period while Dallas Stars made 7 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Dallas Stars a little stronger on the offence but again it was Vancouver Canucks who were the productive of the two sides. The home team successfully scored through Mason Raymond in the 12th minute and sealed the match
with another goal in the very next minute through Dan Hamhuis.
In the end, Vancouver Canucks won the match 7-1 making 12 goal attempts in the period while Dallas Stars made 9 goal attempts.
