2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Washington Capitals overpower Carolina Hurricanes 3-2
The 309th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Washington Capitals play the Carolina Hurricanes. The match was expected to be one of the tough battles with the Capitals suffering from a series of bad results.
The match was played this Wednesday at the RBC Centre, home of the Carolina Hurricanes. There were around 15,000 fans that came in support of their respective teams. This was the 23rd game for the Washington Capitals while the Carolina Hurricanes
played the 21st game of the their respective campaign.
After making a few opening attacks, the home team couldn’t come up with any further attacks and the game was totally dominated by the away side, who dictated the game.
Not only was the away side dominating the department of offence but they maintained a very tight and non porous defensive line. The Washington Capitals started to gain confidence and with this came goal attempts regularly.
The confidence and the determination of the Washington Capitals saw them dominate the game and they managed to score in the 14th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Nicklas Backstrom through a flick shot that was perfectly placed.
The Washington Capitals got a few more scoring opportunities but they failed to capitalize and the period ended with the score 1-0 in favour of the away side.
During the course of the period the Washington Capitals made 13 goal attempts while the Carolina Hurricanes made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw the Washington Capitals score early on in the 2nd minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Nicklas Backstrom once again through another well placed flick shot.
The period saw both the teams come out to score. Neither of the teams was considering the fact that defence was an important part of the game as both teams made combined goal attempts of 33 goal attempts in the period.
Both the teams got numerous scoring opportunities but no further goals were scored and the period ended with the score 2-0 in favour of the Washington Capitals. During the period the Washington Capitals made 14 goal attempts while the Carolina Hurricanes

The final period of the match saw the Carolina Hurricanes score early on to cut the lead to just 1 goal. The goal was scored by Sergei Samsonov through a simple tip-in shot. The Carolina Hurricanes managed to score once again in the 9th minute
to level the scores. The goal was scored by Eric Staal from a flick shot.
The Washington Capitals were determined to score and win the match this time out and with the constant hard work they put in, they scored in the 13th minute to take the lead of the match once again. The goal was scored by Brooks Laich from a simple
tip in shot that put the away side in the lead with the score on 3-2.
The period and the match ended on the same score with the Carolina Hurricanes making 7 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals made 11 goal attempts.
