2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Washington Capitals thrash the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-0
One of the tough matches scheduled to take place on Friday was the Washington Capitals versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. This was the 327th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. This was played at the Verizon Centre, home of the Washington
Capitals in front of 18,000 fans. Tampa Bay Lightning played their 23rd game while the Washington Capitals played the 24th game of the campaign this far.
After making a few decent goal attempts at the start of the match, the Washington Capitals was on top of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the rest of the game. The Capitals displayed some excellent ice hockey skills which came from combining very well together
as well as individually. The defence of the Washington Capitals was very strong as well and restricted the Tampa Bay Lightning to few shots in the period.
The Washington Capitals with such a strong side took the lead with a goal in the 4th minute of the match. The goal was scored by John Carlson through a powerful strike. The period saw the Capitals coming across several more scoring opportunities
but they couldn’t score and the period ended with the home side leading 1-0.
During the course of the match the Tampa bay Lightning made only 4 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals made 10 goal attempts.
The Washington Capitals dominance continued into the 2nd period and they scored in the 5th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by John Erskine through a decent strike that went into the net.
The Washington Capital’s constant pressure and hard work saw them scoring once again in the 7th minute through Alexander Semin. The Washington Capitals went wild on the pitch with the superb passing and extravagant shooting. They successfully
scored another goal in the 9th minute through Alexander Semin once again.
Alexander Semin completed his hat-trick with the final goal of the period in the 12th minute. The goal was scored though a powerful strike. The period saw the Washington Capitals making 14 goal attempts while the Tampa Bay Lightning made 7 goal
attempts.
The final period of the match didn’t have much to talk about though both teams showed some good skills. Chances were less in the period mainly due to the fact that defence was the main area of concentration for both teams.
However, the Washington Capitals managed to score the only goal of the period in the 15th minute. The goal was scored by Tom Poti through a decent strike.
The period didn’t see any further goals as the match ended 6-0 in favour of the Washington Capitals. The final period saw the Washington Capitals making 5 goal attempts while the Tampa Bay Lightning made 6 goal attempts.
After the loss Tampa Bay Lightning’s strong and in form forward Steven Stamkos said, "We just got outworked today - plain and simple," Stamkos said. "There's nothing more to say."
