2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Washington Capitals win 6-4 against the Atlanta Thrashers

Sunday, 14th November 2010 saw the Washington Capitals play host to the Atlanta Thrashers as part of the 245th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. Both teams were playing the 18th game of their respective campaign
in front of 18,000 fans that came in the support.
The period began with the Washington Capitals as stronger of the two teams. They immediately capitalized from the good start they made and scored a goal in the 2nd minute of the match. The goal was scored by Captain of the Washington Capitals,
Alex Ovechkin through a flick shot that was perfectly placed.
The Washington Capitals kept the pressure which resulted in another goal in the 10th minute. The goal was scored by Mike Green during power play through an extravagant flick shot. With 2 goals to their advantage, the Washington Capitals was still
not done.
However, the attacks left open spaces at the back which saw the Atlanta Thrashers score in the 14th minute to take the score 2-1. The goal was scored by Rich Peverley during power play. The Washington Capitals was without a doubt the stronger
team and they proved this with another goal in the 19th minute. The goal was scored by Alexander Semin through a spectacular backhand shot that went flying into the net. The period ended with the Washington Capitals leading 3-1.
During the course of the period, the Atlanta Thrashers made 7 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals made 12 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Atlanta Thrashers make a superb start and their change in strategy worked immediately as they scored in the 2nd minute to cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored by Andrew Ladd through a simple flick shot.
The Washington Capitals responded to this with a goal in the 3rd minute through Matt Hendricks flick shot.
However, the stronger team in the 2nd period was the Atlanta Thrashers and they scored in the 4th minute to trail by just 1 goal. The goal was scored by Bryan Little through a powerful strike. The Atlanta Thrashers scored once again
in the 9th minute to level the score, once again by Bryan Little who bagged his 2nd for the night as the period came to an end with the scores level at 4-4. During the 2nd period, the Atlanta Thrashers made 13 goal attempts
while the Washington Capitals made 8 goal attempts.
However, the Washington Capitals scored twice in the final period to seal the victory. The first goal was scored by John Erskine through a powerful strike. The final goal of the period and the match was scored by David Steckel through decent strike from
82 feet.
The period ended with the Atlanta Thrashers making 7 goal attempts and the Washington Capitals making 13 goal attempts as the latter won the match 6-4.
