Atlanta Thrashers win 5-4 against the New York Islanders
The 429th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New York Islanders play host to the Atlanta Thrashers. The match was played at the Nassau Coliseum Arena this Saturday. This was the 30th game of the season for the Atlanta
Thrashers while the New York Islanders played the 27th game of the season.
The New York Islanders made a great start to the match and piled up shots after shots. However, it took some time before they got in close range of the goal. It was not until the 17th minute that the New York Islanders scored to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Matt Martin from a brilliant backhand shot.
The period saw the Atlanta Thrashers also came up with some goal attempts but they failed to score any goals. The period ended with the New York Islanders leading 1-0 at the end of the first period.
During the first 20 minutes of play, the Atlanta Thrashers made 8 goal attempts while the New York Islanders made 11 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the New York Islanders continue with the goals productivity as they scored once again in the 3rd minute of the 2nd period to double the lead. The goal was scored by Matt Moulson from a well placed shot.
The Atlanta Thrashers put the foot on the gas and started to make attacks from then onwards. Atlanta Thrashers opened their account with a goal in the 19th minute scored by Anthony Stewart who scored through a quick fired shot.
The period ended with the Atlanta Thrashers trailing 2-1. During the course of the period the Thrashers made 9 goal attempts while the New York Islanders made 11 goal attempts.
The final period of the match was totally dominated by the Thrashers as they scored in the 6th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Johnny Oduya. Thrashers continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence and scored once again
in the 8th minute to double the lead with Johnny Oduya bagging his second goal for the night.
The New York Islanders managed to level the scores once again. The goal was scored by Rob Schremp from a brilliant shot. However, the Atlanta Thrashers were determined to regain the lead and scored again in the 12th minute through Bryan Little
to take reign once more.
The Atlanta Thrashers with the determination and hard work continued to come across goal scoring opportunities. The away side doubled the lead with another goal in the 15th minute. The goal was scored by a brilliant long range shot fired by Alexander
Burmistrov.
After taking the score to 5-3 the Atlanta Thrashers relaxed a little which was the reason that they were caught napping in the 19th minute and allowed the Islanders to score. The score at the time was 5-4 in favour of the Thrashers but they couldn’t
score any further goals as the match ended with the Atlanta Thrashers winning the match 5-4.
During the final 20 minutes of play, the Atlanta Thrashers made 10 goal attempts while the New York Islanders made 12 goal attempts.
