The match started off with the home team, Los Angeles Kings in total control of the proceedings from the department of defence to offence. They made numerous goal attempts during the opening few minutes of the period but were unable to score. However, they
were successful in taking the lead with a goal in the 2nd minute. Anze Kopitar scored the goal through a quick fired and well-placed shot.
The home team pressed on in search of another goal and was successful in their search as Anze Kopitar scored once again this time through a backhand shot to take the score to 2-0. The away team was able to respond to this with a goal in the same minute.
The goal was scored by Rob Schremp through a decent flick shot. Though both the team had several chances to bag goals but they were unsuccessful in doing so as the period ended with the Kings leading 2-1.
The period saw the Los Angeles Kings making 12 goal attempts while the New York Islanders made 7 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match was tougher than the first one as both teams had the similar strategy. They maintained a tight defence and waited for the opportunities to come their way. Though there were many chances that came in both teams way but
they were unable to capitalize from them.
The only goal of the period was scored in favour of the Los Angeles Lakers who scored through Justin Williams through a spectacular backhand shot to take the score to 3-1 in the 4th minute. The period saw the New York Islanders coming close to
scoring in the 10th minute only to be denied by the goal post. The period ended with the Kings leading 3-1 as both teams made 9 goal attempts during the 2nd period.
The final period of the match saw the home team dictate the play as they came up with attacks every now and then. The hard work and constant attacks resulted in the Kings scoring once again in the 8th minute to establish 3 goals lead to their
advantage. Dustin Brown scored the goal through a simple shot that went into the goal.
The Los Angeles Kings sealed the win with a goal in the 16th minute of the period. Drew Doughty scored the goal from a simple tip in shot as the Los Angeles Kings won the match 5-1. During the course of the period, the Los Angeles Kings made 13
goal attempts while the New York Islanders made just 3 goal attempts.
"We've been playing really solid hockey," Brown said. "We're getting scoring from everyone and good goaltending. In this game, it really comes down to details and everyone making sure they're doing the right things - especially when you're playing a team
that maybe you're expected to beat."
"There's been some change in the style system, and some detailed parts of the game in the low coverage have been very effective," Coach Terry Murray said. "The great thing is that the guys have a lot of pride in it. It's hard work and execution, but there's
a lot of pride. When you start sliding and blocking shots and sacrificing yourself and doing the right things, it's a great commitment. And the goaltending's been very good, too."
"Our shots don't get through. Anything that's in the way, we seem to hit," Coach Scott Gordon said. "It's probably us gripping the sticks too tightly and taking too long to get the shot off. This has been a long stretch of road games we've been on, and I
think it's factored in a little bit into where we are at right now. We need to go back home and regroup."
