2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series update – Boston Bruins thrash Ottawa Senators 6-0
The first game of Tuesday was hosted by the Boston Bruins as they were up against the Ottawa Senators at the TD Garden.
This was the 632nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series with Ottawa Senators playing their 43rd game while the Boston Bruins played the 42nd game of the season.
An attendance of around 17,500 was observed and much to their delight the home team thrashed the Ottawa Senators 6-0.
Patrice Bergeron of Boston Bruins was named the star selection of the match for his hat-trick.
Boston Bruins made a great start to the match. Not only did they dominate possession but came up with some splendid play making. Coupled with this was the strong defence they maintained early on. Boston Bruins kept knocking on the door and finally managed to score through Patrice Bergeron in the 4th minute.
Ottawa Senators came up with some resistance after the goal but their strategy of an all out attack backfired as Boston Bruins scored their second goal on a counter attack. The goal was scored by Blake Wheeler from a simple tip in shot.
The period moved swiftly with both teams coming up with shots regularly but no goals were scored.
The period ended with Boston Bruins leading 2-0 as the teams went into the break. During the course of the period Ottawa Senators made 9 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made 10 goal attempts.
The second period started with Boston Bruins dominating from the start once again. The early domination of the home side resulted in them scoring their third goal in the 3rd minute with a brilliant strike by Patrice Bergeron.
After the goal, Ottawa Senators started to come up with shots and several scoring opportunities but again they failed to convert any of these into goals. Boston stepped up their game once again during which they scored once again through Brad Marchand from a tip in shot in the 15th minute.
Boston Bruins completed the dominating performance closing the period with Tyler Seguin from a quick fired shot in the 16th minute. The period ended with Boston Bruins leading 5-0. During the period Ottawa Senators made 13 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made 17 goal attempts.
The final period of the match was all the more exciting as both teams fought hard with Boston Bruins fighting to keep a clean sheet.
Both teams continued to come across scoring chances but Boston Bruins scored the only goal of the period through Patrice Bergeron, who completed his hat-trick in the 6th minute. The period and the match ended with Boston Bruins winning the match 6-0 making 12 goal attempts in the period while Ottawa Senators made 9 goal attempts.
At the end of the match, Patrice Bergeron said, "I just think our forecheck's been a lot better and we're in sync as a line a little bit more", said Bergeron, who has 13 goals. "I thought we were doing good things also before but the puck wasn't going in and now it is, so obviously you have to take it and go with it".
"We didn't know if we had to give the hats back the first time," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "It was nice to see. He had a really good game".
