2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – weekend round up (Part 1)

New York Rangers versus Toronto Maple Leafs
The past Saturday saw the Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the New York Rangers at the Air Canada Centre, where there was an attendance of around 19,000. This was the 10th game for teams of their campaign thus far and the 143rd game
of the regular season. The game was on the slower side with the New York Rangers emerging victorious in the end with the score 2-0.
During the course of the 1st period, the New York Rangers scored the only goal of the period to go into the break leading. The goal was scored by Brain Boyle in the 14th minute. The goal was a result of a spectacular backhand shot from
33 feet. As the teams went into the break the New York Rangers were in the lead an during the first 20 minutes they made 6 goal attempts and the Toronto Maple Leafs made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period was very exciting as both teams came out determined to score. The teams attacked every now and then. Though both teams worked hard during the period but it was the New York Rangers who scored once again to double their lead. The
goal was scored by Ryan Callahan through a penalty shot in the 19th minute. As the period came to an end, the New York Rangers scored once out of the 12 goal attempts they made whereas the Toronto Maple Leafs made 18 goal attempts without any success.
The 3rd period didn’t provide us with any goals as both teams were very strong defensively. Though Toronto Maple Leafs tried to gain the upper hand but they were unsuccessful in doing so. The period and the match ended with the score on 2-0 in
favour of the New York Rangers. During the last period, the home team made 9 goal attempts and the New York Rangers made 6 goal attempts but none of the shots found the back of the net. The New York Rangers goal keeper Henrik Lundqvist was named the 1st
star selection of the match as he made 36 saves out of the 36 shots that the opposing team made.
Florida Panthers versus the Montreal Canadiens
The 144th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Florida Panthers play the Montreal Canadiens. The game took place in front of 21,000 fans at the Centre Bell Arena, home of the Montreal Canadiens. The Florida Panthers played their
9th and the Montreal Canadiens played the 10th game of their campaign.  
The 1st period saw the Florida Panthers come up with splendid pieces of play which saw them scoring once and taking the lead going into the break. The goal was scored in the 13th minute through a spectacular backhand shot from Michael
Frolik from 20 feet. The period ended with the Florida Panthers leading 1-0. During the period, the Florida Panthers made 11 goal attempts and the Montreal Canadiens made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Montreal Canadiens level the score in the 3rd minute through Mathieu Darche from a flick shot from 7 feet. However, the joy was short lived as the Florida Panthers scored once again to take the lead. The goal
came in the 9th minute credentials to a David Booth penalty shot from 15 feet. The period ended with the Florida Panthers in the lead with the score on 2-1. The period saw the Montreal Canadiens make 16 goal attempts and the Florida Panthers make
11 goal attempts with both team scoring once.
The 3rd period was no different from the previous 2 periods maintaining the same energy level. The puck was seen going here and there with chances coming for both teams. However, it was the Florida Panthers who scored one again to seal the win.
The goal was scored by Shawn Matthias from a backhand shot from 14 feet in the 16th minute. The Montreal Canadiens made 16 goal attempts and the Florida Panthers made 9 goal attempts scoring the only goal of the period.
Tomas Vokoun, goal keeper of the Florida Panthers was named the 1st star selection of the match as the Panthers won the match 3-1.
