Pittsburgh Penguins win 3-0 against the Carolina Hurricanes
The Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Carolina Hurricanes was the 147th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The game took place at the RBC Centre, home of the Carolina Hurricanes in front of 18,500 fans this past Saturday. The game was
anticipated to be an exciting encounter but in the end the Pittsburgh Penguins made it a one sided encounter winning the game 3-0.
The 1st period saw both teams start off slowly. But after the first few minutes, the Penguins determination was greater than that of their opponents and they scored in the 5th minute to take the lead. The goal was score by Pascal Dupis
from a backhand shot from 10 feet that went into the goal through the legs of the goal keeper. The period didn’t see any more goals though both teams had the share of the chances. During the period, the home team made 6 goal attempts failing to score and the
Pittsburgh Penguins scored once out of the 10 goal attempts they made.
The 2nd period saw both teams attack throughout. The early part of the period was dominated by the Pittsburgh Penguins as they scored once again in the 3rd minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Maxime Talbot from a backhand
shot from 8 feet. The away team after doubling the lead concentrated on maintaining a tight defence in which they successful. However, the home team made goal attempts but they were from long range. The period ended with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the lead
at 2-0. During the course of the 2nd period, the Pittsburgh Penguins scored once out of the 14 goal attempts whereas the Carolina Hurricanes made 16 goal attempts without any goals.
The final period saw the Pittsburgh Penguins wrap up the match with a goal in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Pascal Dupis who bagged his 2nd for the night as the Penguins won the match 3-0. The period saw the Penguins make 7
goal attempts with one goal and the Carolina Hurricanes made 11 goal attempts without any success.
Detroit Red Wings win 5-2 against the Nashville Predators
The 148th game of the NHL regular season took place at the Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings. The match saw 18,000 fans come to witness the match as the Detroit Red Wings played host to the Nashville Predators.
The home team got off to a great start but they couldn’t capitalize and score a goal. However, the home team’s hard work paid off in the 13th minute when they took the lead. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from a flick shot from 22 feet.
The home team pressed on in search of another goal after taking the lead and were successful. They doubled their lead in the 18th minute scoring through Brad Stuart through a tip in shot from 10 feet. The period ended with the score 2-0 in favour
of the Detroit Red Wings.
The 2nd period saw the Nashville Predators come out determined to score and make a comeback. They were successful in scoring in the 8th minute to cut the lead. The goal was scored by Joel Ward who hit a splendid flick shot from 32 feet.
After the goal, the home was content on regaining the 2 goals advantage. They scored to regain the advantage in the 18th minute. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from a decent strike from 12 feet. The period didn’t see further goals as both
teams went into the break with the score 3-1. During the period both team scored once and also made 8 goal attempts each respectively.
The 3rd period saw the Detroit Red Wings come up with an impressive performance scoring twice in the space of two minute.
The first goal came in the 5th minute when Tomas Holmstrom scored through a tip in shot from 10 feet. The 2nd goal of the period came from Patrick Eaves from a 39 feet strike that was perfectly placed in the top right corner. Though
the Nashville Predators scored in the 10th minute but it was no more than a consolation goal. The goal was scored by Kevin Klien from a 50 feet strike. The period and the game ended with the Detroit Red Wings winning the match 5-2.
