St. Louis Blues win 4-3 against the Atlanta Thrashers after shootout
The St. Louis Blues played host to the Atlanta Thrashers this past Saturday at the Scottrade Centre. There were around 20,000 fans that came to witness the 149th game of the NHL regular season.
The match started with the Atlanta Thrashers dominating the proceedings and coming up with brilliant pieces of play. The game saw its first goal in the 9th minute in favour of the Atlanta Thrashers. The goal was scored by Rich Peverley from a
decent strike from 22 feet. The away team pressed on despite taking the lead. Their choice of attacking proved to be the wrong one as the St. Louis Blues scored through a counter attack. The goal was scored by Jay Mcclement whose 7 feet went into the net after
being deflected by a defender. However, the Atlanta Thrashers scored 2 more goals as the period ended. The first goal came in the 14th minute by Nik Antropov and the 2nd came from Niclas Bergfos shot from 28 feet in the 18th
minute. The period ended with the Thrashers in the lead at 3-1.
The 2nd period was no less in terms of energy but there were no goal during the course of the 2nd period. Both teams had a share of the goal scoring chances but none found the back of the net. Both the teams were tied in terms of goal
attempts at the end which were 7 as the 2nd period ended with the score 3-1 in favour of the away team.
The 3rd period saw a comeback by the home team as they scored twice to take the match into overtime. The 1st goal came in the 13th minute from Jay Mcclement’s shot from 11 feet. The 2nd goal came in the 16 minute
and was scored by Mcclement once again who completed his hat-trick. The overtime didn’t see any goal and the game went into a shootout. Brad Boyle’s goal in the shootout won the St. Louis Blues the match 4-3 after they were down 2 goal heading into the 3rd
period.
Chicago Blackhawks win 3-1 against the Minnesota Wild
The defending champions played the Minnesota Wild this Saturday in front of 18,000 fans. The match took place at the Xcel Energy Centre, home of the Minnesota Wild.
The match started slowly for both teams but chances came for both team but neither of the teams capitalized and the 1st period came to end without any goals. During the first period, the home team made 9 goal attempts and the Chicago Blackhawks
made 11 goal attempts without any goals.
The 2nd period started up with a lot power displayed by the defending champions as they work hard and were determined to score. They came to scoring quite a few times but couldn’t score. On the other hand, the Minnesota also had a share of the
chances as they caught the opposition on a counter attack every now and then. But to the disappointment of the fans they couldn’t score either. However, the deadlock was broken in the last minute of the period by the Chicago Blackhawks. The goal was scored
by Troy Brouwer from a close range flick that went into the goal through the legs of the goal keeper. The period ended with this play with both teams making 12 goal attempts but the champions scored the only goal of the period.
The final period started with the Chicago Blackhawks scoring in the 4th minute to double the lead. The goal was scored by Duncan Keith from a wrap around shot from 7 feet. The home team piled up good shots after this and were successful in scoring
as a result in the 15th minute. The goal was scored by Marek Zidlicky from a flick shot from 14 feet. But the Chicago Blackhawks sealed the win with a goal in the 18th minute. The goal was scored by Jake Dowell from a spectacular shot
from 103 feet as the Blackhawks won the match 3-1.
