Washington Capitals thrash the Calgary Flames 7-2
This past Saturday, the Calgary Flames played host to the Washington Capitals at the Scotibank Arena.
The home team, Calgary Flames started off the proceedings with a goal in the very first minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Olli Jokinen from 8 feet shot that went into the net after a deflection. Taking the lead, the home team pressed on in
hunt for another goal. Their determination was rewarded with a goal in the 12th minute when they doubled their lead with a goal from Curtis Glencross. The goal was a result of a powerful strike from 43 feet. The away team also worked hard during
the period and managed to pull one goal back when they scored in the 16th minute. The goal was scored by Niclas Backstrom from a flick shot 20 feet away from goal. The period ended with the score 2-1 in favour of the Calgary Flames as they made
16 goal attempts and the Washington Capitals made 8 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the away team dominate the proceedings from the start. The Washington Capitals started smoothly and managed to level the score in the 4th minute during the power play. The goal was scored by Captain Alex Ovechkin
through a powerful shot from 35 feet. The Washington Capitals took the lead when they scored once again in the same minute. The goal scorer was again the Captain Alex Ovechkin from 47 feet. After the 2 quick goals, the home team piled up good attacks but they
were caught on a counter attack in the 11th minute. During the 11th minute, the Washington Capitals bagged 2 more goals. The first of which was scored by Mike Green from 24 feet and the second was scored by Matt Bradley’s 19 feet shot
that went in with some help from a deflection.
The Washington Capitals continued to attack and scored two more goals during the course of the period. The first of the two goals came in the 14th minute when Semin hit a 15 feet splendid shot. The 2nd came in the 19th minute when David
Steckle scored through a penalty shoot. The period ended with the score 7-2 in favour of the Washington Capitals.
The last period didn’t see any goals though both teams came across numerous scoring opportunities. During the final period, the home team made 7 goal attempts and the Washington Capitals made 6 goal attempts with no goals as the Capitals won the match 7-2.
Los Angeles Kings win 3-1 against the New Jersey Devils
The Los Angeles Kings played against the New Jersey Devils this past Saturday as part of the 155th game of the regular season.
The Los Angeles Kings were quick out of the blocks and scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Justin Williams from a powerful strike from 23 feet. The period didn’t see more goals as the period ended with the home team
making 9 goal attempts and the New Jersey Devils making 11 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Los Angeles Kings double their lead by a goal in the 10th minute. The goal was scored by Michal Handzus from 10 feet. However, the Devils responded to this with a goal in the 11th minute through Matt
Taormina from 59 feet. The Los Angeles Kings scored the final goal of the period and the match in the 12th minute from a spectacular backhand shot by Jarret Stoll from 29 feet. The period came to an end with the score 3-1 in favour of the Los Angeles
Kings.
The final period saw the away team come across 20 goal scoring opportunities but none of the shots found the back of the net. The Kings also had 6 goal scoring opportunities but they couldn’t score. The period and the match came to an end with the Los Angeles
Kings winning the match 3-1.
