2010 Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel: USA's Bob and Mike Bryan claim championship title
Seeded no. 1 at the tournament, the beyond invincible Bryan brothers thrashed the duo consisting of Canada's Daniel Nestor and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic in the championship final of the 2010 Davidoff Swiss Indoors, marking their third win of the season over the pair. The arduous three set battle was initiated with a 6-3 win in the first set by Mike and Bob. Nestor and Zimonjic turned the tables on their competitors by taking the second set 6-3. The third set decisive tiebreaker, nevertheless, was taken by the Americans based upon their 10-3 win.
In the words of Nestor, "They were the better team today. They played well when they had to, especially at the end." Earlier, Nenad and Daniel deleted America's Eric Butorac and Curacao's Jean-Julien Rojer in the semi-finals of the tournament. Rojer and Butorac got off to a good start taking the first set 6-3. However, in spite of remaining evenly contested in the second, it was Nestor and Zimonjic who took the set based on their 7-5 win. Furthermore, the duo went on to win the tiebreaker 10-7 to face the Bryan brothers in the finals.
Meanwhile, Bob and Mike got rid of China's Lu Yen-hsun and Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic in the semi-final match played between the four. Unfortunately, for Janko and Yen-hsun, the two failed to perform up to par, as the Bryan's took the first set 6-1 and the following set 6-2 to proceed to the championship final.
In an all-American tussle, the Bryan brothers battled it out against companions, John Isner and Sam Querrey in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Mike and Bob instantly exercised their authority on the match, taking the first set 6-0. Querrey and Isner managed to pull up in terms of their performance as the teams remained evenly matched in the second set. However, it was taken 7-6 by John and Sam. Furthermore, the tiebreaker went in favour of the Bryan's as they took it 10-7.
Additionally, Mike and Bob defeated Slovakia's Karol Beck and the Czech Republic's Jan Hajek in the first round of the 2010 Davidoff Swiss Indoors. The pair was defeated 6-2 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set, marking a straight set win for the Bryan brothers. Bob and Mike are currently ranked no. 1 in the World as far as their career doubles rankings go.
