Gael Monfils of France got through with Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic thrashing his competitor 6-1, 7-6 and 6-0 to give France a 1-0 lead over Serbia at the 2010 Davis Cup finals.

In a matter of two hours, Gael brought a close to the match defeating Janko on home ground. The Frenchman broke Tipsarevic five times without dropping a single serve of his own. Additionally, Monfils has been unbeaten in cup singles as far as the year 2010
is concerned.

“The score looked easy, but it was tough. I had to focus on all points to destroy him. I think he was nervous today, and did not play his usual way. After the first set it was easier for me because Janko was under pressure,” stated Monfils.

Tipsarevic got off to a rather bad start as he double faulted on the first two points after having lost the first game. Furthermore, Janko was once again broken in the fifth game, however, the professional managed to rise in terms of his performance as the
second set commenced.

During the second set, Janko failed to convert two break points, one at 1-1 and the other at 3-3, shortly after which Monfils took the tie-breaker to lead 2 sets to 1. The Serb seemed to have been nervous as he initiated the third set with yet another double
fault, causing Monfils to steamroll his way to victory.

“The first game gave Gael the mental advantage because he knew I was nervous. I told myself, just get that service into the court and start playing. He just stood there, returning the balls and having to do nothing else. If I won that tiebreak, I think this
would have been a different match for me," said Tipsarevic.

Sealing a deal with a forehand volley, Monfils' win gave France the upper hand. The French team is out to get its 10th Davis Cup final having clinched the title last in the year 2001. In addition, Gilles Simon of France will be opposed by Serb Novak
Djokovic in the next match.
