The 2010 Formula One season has clearly been one of the most exhilarating and dramatic seasons in a long time in Formula 1. It seems that the FIA succeeded in delivering the ultimate Formula One experience this year after tweaking
some rules after the 2009 season.
The Stewards introduced a new points system and one has to admit that the new system was confusing, but adding a considerable amount of excitement at the same time. On top of that, the top running and established teams such as
McLaren and Ferrari were able to deliver after a disappointing 2009 season where both of the teams did not secure the top 2 rankings in the Constructor’s standings.
Red Bull and the debut making Mercedes GP stole the show away from McLaren and Ferrari while this year though it was not easy going.
Red Bull clearly had the best car but since McLaren and Ferrari have more experience, both of the teams were able to challenge the Champion’s race after race with the help of their unique strategies and drivers.
McLaren introduced the F-duct and therefore, most of the teams came up with even more unique devices. However, it was great to see a new team competing alongside the two most legendary teams at the top. These sorts of performances
give the rest of the back running and middle running teams hope that they too can achieve such results and at least attempt to come in pole.
With unexpected and unpredictable results race after race, the 2010 season made its way to one of the most historic seasons in the sport. Because of these results, the teams kept shifting in the Driver’s standings. This year’s
Championship was led by 5 drivers at different times. However, Sebastian Vettel, the 2010 Driver’s Champion led the Championship just once and that was when it mattered the most, in the Grand finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Formula One requires both strategy and physical abilities in order to achieve the perfect result. The drivers have to work on their performance and improve upon ever thousandth of a second they lose while braking and changing gears
during a race. On the other hand, the teams have to out think their competitors in order to enable their drivers to run consistently.
Some drivers have been extremely safe while others have been extremely aggressive providing the audience with performances to applaud and questions as to what strategy is the best and most winning. While Sebastian Vettel and Lewis
Hamilton have been the most aggressive drivers this season even at times even paying the price drivers like Mark Webber and Jenson Button drove extremely safe, but lost out on the title. In a memorable race Vettel took out his own teammate in the Turkish
Grand Prix while trying an overtaking manoeuvre to take over the lead from Mark Webber. As a result, Red Bull was unable to score a confirmed 1-2 finish.
Lewis Hamilton lost more than Red Bull did as he collided while overtaking a car on track during two consecutive races. Lewis lost 50 points and yes, one can say even the championship.
This year’s Formula One season had one of the toughest competitions when it comes to the Driver’s title with 5 drivers were vying for it with no clear leader until the 2nd last race after which the contention was whittled
down to 4 drivers left to race it out at the Grand Finale in Abu Dhabi.
After a well planned and well driven race, Sebastian Vettel won the 2010 Driver’s title after covering a deficit of 15 points between himself and Championship leader Fernando Alonso. Webber denied an overtake in Brazil by teammate
Vettel came in short at Abu Dhabi as well, coming in 8th ending the season in overall third. Alonso kept at bay by a wily Vitaly Petrov, finished the race in 7th
while shaking his fist at the Russian Petrov to end his season in 2nd place in the Driver’s list. Compatriots Hamilton and Button ended their seasons in 4th and 5th respectively.
